Project Cowboy...9/6/08 havent quit just delayed

I still need build a new tranni hump. I am going to make it flat so that my shifter and console has more of a base to sit on. I'll post pics when I do it. Make sure you post a ton of pics when your doing it.:wink1:

Thanks for you write up, it gave me a couple ideas. I pretty much know how I'm going to redo the floor. Im going to add some 1" square tubing to the sub structure already there and get rid of the back hump on the tranny tunnel. The hardest part I think will be making a new tranny tunnel. I'm going to add a 1" body lift to the truck to make room for some of the 1 inch square tubing and to help keep my COG down some.

Yeah Im going to make the top flat and as big as I can. Im going to put a floor shifter on it for then trany and a cable shifter for the transfercase. It will be a couple of weeks untill I start putting sheet metal down. I'll be going next weekend to get my metal to add to the substructer on the floor. That will take me about 2 weeks to do(paint and clean the under body in that area) Then proble another 2 weeks to do the floor. My metal for the floor is in 8 an 10 inch strips so I have to weld them together witch will take for ever:( but it was free.

Well I was pretty busy last month so I didnt get anything done on the blazer until today. I went and picked up some metal to start on the flooring. I got some 1" tubing for the floor and then some 3/16 2x6 for my rocker panel/rocksliders. And some other pieces for later on.

Ok well first I started by removing the doors and exhaust so I could have more room to work. Im going to end up cuting the tops off the doors and making them half doors, but that will be later on.

I then finished removing the rest of the floor. I had a little bit of the back end left over. So about 1 hour with the cut-off wheel and air chessel and that was done.

Well then came the hard part finding out how much to cut off and what to cut off to get the 2x6s in. I started off by cutting what I knew was going to come off already. I wanted my floor to be pretty flat but be a little bowed so the water would run out. I decided to put some 1" tubing across the rocker pannel for suport and to act as a lip to keep water out. So I notched out the body frame for the tubing. I was surprised that the hole cab didnt fall over on that side, with nothing holding it up. I tacked the 1" in placed and check to see if it was right were I wanted it.

I used another piece of 1" to make sure it wasnt to high or to low. Besides it being a little twisted it was just right. So I finished welding it and welded the rest of the cab to it. Now I had a guide to go by for the 2x6 becasue it was going right under the 1" tubing. It was a Pain cutting the front part out and the back wasnt to bad. I left the step bar there to help me hold and block up the 2x6 since I was doing this by myself. It took a couple of tries to get everything cut and grinded right for it to fit. I then got my floor jack and jacked it up to put weight on it, to make sure it fit right. When everything looked good I tacked it into place. I left it long Because when I cut out the fenders I'm going to run 2.5" round tubing from the corners of the rockslider and make them rap around to the bumpers.

I will finish welding it in tomorrow and hopefully get the other side done as well. Im just welding the slider to 1" and the cab. I'm not going to weld it to the side pannels incase I ever have to take them off. The way they are now there is a little presure on them to keep them from moving or rattling. I will get some better pictures tomorrow to show how I tied everything in.

Hey, what's that brown stuff all over the truck?

I got to hand it to you guys back east for the extra effort needed to fight the rust battle.

Are you ditching the nerf bars? Also, how much are you gonna have to hack your doors to fit them?

Yeah I'm losing the nerf bars. I left them there just to help hold up the rockslider since I was putting them in by myself. Ill have to cut about 2" off the bottum of the doors. I'm going to cut the tops off of them to and take out the windows and make a half door.

lol sorry but the bumper is gone.

Well I didnt get a chance to get any work done this week with it being spring break and to nice out to work on the truck. I did get the glass taken out of the doors and started to cut the tops off of them. I will get pick and more updates when I can.
