Project DieselWarrior ( ++ Updated: 25 Aug 10 w/PART 23 VIDEO ++ )

Hey Andy, congrats on the job mate, job = cash = parts for blazer hahaha, don't forget to treat the missus though or they get grumpy :haha: pity that knob-end ruined the exhaust job by doiong a half arsed job on the mounting, but I guess better you do it and not pay him fitty an hour or what ever he charges, I guess he used "Ass Wire" when he welded it huh?? hahahahahaha, keep going bruv, your well on the way now man

Kiwi, your always good for some fresh motivation! Thanks for watching and supporting the project.

Be sure to see part 19, I make a battery box from scratch with scrap steel for free, (Saved $60!) and lifted the driver's seat 1.5 inches so my short arse can see over the hood now! :doah: (Im 5'9" and felt like a 12 year old when I drove the truck!!!)

Andrew

Just watched it man, that battery box fitted perfect man, good job dude, hey one thing though, my old 73 had the seats modded in the same way you have by the PO, he had used bits of pipe cut to length, they were startin to bust through the floor when I ripped up the carpet, might pay to weld some thing more substantial to the floor where the washers are contacting, or later when you get tiome make up some box section frame, just don't use the "Asswire" or "LLS" techniques :haha: I better get back to work man, it's 10:56 in the morn down here and a beautifull day - yeeehaaaa, we have had rain for 2 months, I feel like buying a submarine with a 6.2 in it hahaha take it easy man

Current Needs:
Tires, looking at 31" for the time being :(
New front springs to get rid of front blocks installed by a PO :doah:
New drop drag link because taking off the pitman arm or the steering arm, is just too much work. :wink1:
New primary fuel filter
Oil change

Next summer:
Roof/Cargo rack
16" rims
285/75R16 PrimeWell PA 100 LT tires from Firestone, $156 each (Think 33's)
Either new rear springs, or spring flip of some type
Center console from a .50 cal ammo can

Theres more, but I cant think of it right now.

Been busy...

As it ends up, I dont get the job after all. My previous employer is being spiteful and giving bad references to my new job applications. I have no proof, but I know it to be fact. Also a lot of "weird behavior" from some who I thought were supportive of me, from there. After 7 years of dedicated service as a corrections officer, and this is how I get paid back. I resigned my position due to medical issues, which developed under large part from the stressors of working there. Again, my word against.... theres. And who is going to listen to me anyway? Screw it all and just keep pushing forward with life.

So, I am back to looking for work.

I had the WarWagon slipping in (R), also noticed she wouldnt kick down on WOT during driving... ended up being 1.5 qt low on tranny fluid... Now I know whats leaking in my driveway! HA HA!

I hope to have some new meat on soon, will have to borrow the money but Ill have to since the rubber I have now is dry rotted and is not holding air.

I also need her so I can scoot around town putting in more applications since some Judas whack'o isnt finished putting the weenie in me, even AFTER Ive left! :eek1:

Id be interested in what is the best way to tell she is firing on all 8? Diesel mechanics dont come cheap... I get a weird "feeling" Ive got an injector problem or something... it just sounds "weird" under acceleration, it SOUNDS like it is missing!!

Take care,
Andrew

Add to list: Transfer drop.

Im pretty sure Ive got some driveline vibes.. Ill know for sure after I get tires that are balanced (theres no weights at all on the wheels right now :doah: )

Im going to get the steel to build one, how much drop is recommended for a 4" suspension lift?

Thanks-

Sheet bummer to hear about the job bro, maybe wasn't meant to be anyway and somethin better will come up, regarding the missing, if you have time start the truck, and get it nice and warm, the slacken each injector line one at a time and listen to the engine note, if the engine is firing ok on that cyl you will notice a a diffenerence in sound and the way it is idling, might shake a wee bit, if it aint firing on that cyl then you won't notice much at all, try that first Andy and see how ya get on

Man, thats outstanding advice! I read that somewhere a while back but totally forgot about it!

When you say slacken each line, exactly what am I doing??

Oh, and the job.. like you said, something else will come along, maybe much better... just gotta have faith in good karma!

Thanks!

With the engine running and warmed up, (make sure none of your clothing or body gets caught up in the fan area etc dude) loosen each injector pipe nut at the injector one by one untill you can see fuel leaking, and notice if any change in the engine running and sound of the engine, with a good firing cyl you will notice the engine stumble a bit when that injector is isolated, just the same as you do with a gasser when you short out a plug lead bro, if you still aint sure , just keep asking what your not sure on Sweet, good luck mate

I'm sh!t at explaining things man, when I say slacken one by one, I mean do them one at a time, so start at say no 1 slacken it listen to engine etc, then retighten, then move on to the next one and do the same, till you have done all of them and hopefully they all eact pretty much the same, if you slacken one and the engine doesn't change at all, therte is something wrong with that cyl

Well in "Warrior World", its just at midnight, so Im off to sleepy bye.

Thanks for the help, GREAT information... Since I love video, Ill put one together detailing the process.

Thanks-

The way that injector thing works is kind of cool. The fuel in the line being liquid does not compress. The tip of the injector is spring loaded. To fire and run the injection pump sends a pulse of fuel to each injector in the correct firing order. The pulse of fuel creates a pressure spike at the tip of the injector, overcomes the spring and sprays a mist of fuel into the pre-chamber.

When you loosen the injector line at the injector, you give the pressure spike of fuel somewhere else to go (dribbling onto your exhaust...) and nothing gets injected into that cylinder. If you hear no change in how the engine is running when you do this, that cylinder is not doing much. if it runs noticeably worse, tighten and move on.

I think the Video idea is great, if it all come out right, maybe it could help several people that don't know much about diesels etc, either way man, hope it turns out your just being fussy and the engine is sweet, don't forget to make sure none of you and yer clothing gets caught up in the rotating assys, mind you that would be an instant Youtube viral hit I'm sure :eek1:

Yeah dude, basic hydraulics, liquids don't compress - diesels rock

4 SCORE and two months ago...

SCORE
Got 4 new 31's put on today for about $470, they are supposed to be really good in the snow. I helped out at an accident today, went DOWN into the gully to park off the road... When the cops showed up to take over the War Wagon came out in 2WD with zero tire spin! (It was raining heavy and everything was soaking wet/slick)

SCORE
Got an XJ intermediate steering shaft for $25. I know a lot of folks are getting them cheaper, but they are hard to find here, and the joints are tight as dicks hat band! (no torsional slop!)

SCORE
Got a passenger side battery box at the junk yard for cheap, now I dont need to make one.

SCORE
Got a nice radiator overflow reservoir for cheap. Its not the same design, but it is from a newer 6.2 donor so Im sure it will work out fine. Mine has a crack in it and as soon as the coolant goes in, it goes right to the ground.

SCORE
I found a metal scrap yard while getting my Stadadyne additive today, they let you walk around the yard and load up your trailer with what you want, drive away for 50 cents a pound. I wish I had a trailer, they had some box steel what would make a killer bumper!!
