Project Eat Soot

Nice job Andy!! You did make it look a little too easy--even with skipping the intercooler. It is supposed to take much longer to accomplish.

So, what do you think about it?? Good/Bad?? Or are you still giddy as a schoolgirl when you get in it?? It took me awhile to get past that phase.

Man, that's a trip.... :screwy:

It's just weird to hear that kind of sound come out of a 1st gen.

Don't get my wrong, it's way cool, just a trip to watch it and listen to it at the same time. :waytogo:

My wife laughs at the looks we get when I start mine or we pull up and someone recognizes something is not normal. The fastest way to find the "car guy" in the crowd is to start it up and see whose head swings around. That's your "car guy" in the crowd.

I've been at car shows where that happens.... Usually some guy with a rowdy motor starts up his car and it's like a scene from a zombie movie. Buncha guys from every corner of the event start moving in the direction of the noise as quickly as possible. You'd think someone had just opened a "free brains" concession stand! :haha:

The best thing about a cummins is the turbo wistle...can`t get enough of that. :thumb:

Thats what sucks about my Lb7 Duramax, can`t hear the turbo.

Just the design of the stock turbo on the lb7... the newer versions whistle like crazy. Taking the muffler of wont do it.

Wow guys thanks for props...Moses thanks for the help on the build. Heck my build was farely easy...non intercooled, no ac etc. I hope to have it intercooled soon. Also need
to add a second battery. Tough time starting with one. I drove it yesterday and got it into 5th gear man it sure it fun. It was absolutely worth every cent. Moses is right the people do double and triple takes and I got my first thumbs up!

I would expect a lot more of these :thumb::thumb::thumb: in your future!:D

And that CrewCab you posted is

Waytogo man!:waytogo: Wicked build you got! :thumb:

Maybe I have been living under a rock...but I didnt know someone was building crew cabs, especially in my home state. Some may already know about them but I shocked to see them advertise on Portland Craigslist.

Boone..... The SSOR engine crossmember is pretty nice came with everything including bolts and factory Dodge rubber mounts. I like the crossmember although it was a pain to get...I bought and paid for it and waited forever to get it after a nasty e-mail I recieved it. Anyway..thanks for bringing that up again! Ha. Also note that unless he has made changes the crossmember is advertised for 73-91 frames. It has to be modified mainly the "C" channels that fit inside of the frame will not just slide in our frames our are narrower. One other thing is that I could'nt get the engine low enough with pre-drilled holes and had use the bottom holes and build another bracket. With that said I knew there would be some modification so it wasn't a surprise.

thanks for the reply. Ya im debating building my own or buying one 600 is alot of dough so i figure i can screw up quite a few times for that price. I dont wont to deal with any bs vendors ethier there is way to many of them....

OK.....So please tell me why we like these damn rust buckets so much! I knew it was toast but damn it. I know you guys will love the previous owners fix with a can of insulation! Got the PS rocker torn off this weekend wasn't bad taking it off but quite a bit of work to do. Might as well tackle this during the winter time. I'm kinda lost with this kind of work so I guess I will try it anyway. I have been reading all the good posts on doing it. Any tricks or tips taken. On with the cancer pics, and my daughter cleaning up the garbage. Thata girl!

Yep.

We've all been there. It's not as scary as it looks initially. You need a new front cab support, some new floor metal, and the inner and outer rocker (buy the pickup truck inner, it's a nicer part and easier to graft into the good part of your floor)

It depends how deeply you want to dig, but you "might as well" cut the spot welds off that torsion box and drop it out of the way. It will be next to impossible to repair the cab support with it in the way, and you'll be able to get deeper to clean off rust and apply new protective coatings before re-assembling everything.

Leaking hardtops are to blame for that footwell rot... that, and a lack of drainage once water gets inside. I'm sure you've already looked through my thread, but I tackled the passenger side first and the photos of the decontruction (as well as the new patch panels used) will probably be a good trail of breadcrumbs for you to follow.
