Hey lunatic i have the flt11500 on a 1989 k-5 fit no problems and yeh the paint sucks i got black high heat paint and painted them look good.

Thanks for the heads up, marko.

......h.i.j.a.c.k..... :(

I understand completely about the flat black paint. It has been one of my main concerns of a header purchase - The finish lasting longer than the ride back home, or in this case, the shipment travel. Black was never a choice. I'll be going with a thermal or ceramic coating. I currently have a pair of Flowtech 31500FLTs using 3 bolt flange, and a pair of Hedman 69890s with ball and socket flange.

I'll decide soon enough from all the feedback on this board - Thanks again

END......h.i.j.a.c.k.....

Sorry about the short intermission, KRAWLER - I tried to keep it minimal.

man, i was hoping for the cop theme, especially w/ that k10 krawlers on it(k-9+1...lol)...you know how many people you'd scare the heck out of when you roll up on them doing sum'n wrong.

i'm painting my k5 to resemble arkansas game and fish commision k5's, w/big beretta(the gun company) emblems on the doors. at least until i can afford the camo vinyl, then i'm going satin black w/ camo vinyl inside my 80 model trim and camo seat covers....i'm not sure i would run that light tho, you don't want to get in trouble impersonating an officer!!

I know, i really want to do the cop theme as well!!!! lol I just cant make up my mind. maybe I will. I entered my truck into a show and shine in july, so I think ill keep the cop theme for that. we have 5 cars to park on, whoo! lol now i just need to finish the damn thing. Its at my parent place right now sitting in a field until I can get a bunch more parts. but once I have them all it will be a big wrenchfest to get her going! the goal is to have the truck running/ trailready by may. then I can start on upgrading my d60 and all the good stuff like that

Ok I think its time for an update. I have not been to busy but I did get a bunch of those "little jobs" done. I re did all the brakes, did a tune up, installed the fuel pump for the TBI, etc I took a few pictures this time, so I will explain As I go!

So this is the pile Of parts I started the weekend off with
P1010799-1.jpg

After puting new coolant hoses in I fill up the rad. #$@! I had a leak... ok no big deal I have a spare.... So I pulled it out of a parts truck and it leaked too. I had to call a friend and steal one from his parts truck. Yay! no leaks! I still want to get my first rad fixed becasue the one I took from my friend is a 3 core rad and Mine was a 4 core

I got a steal of a deal on a front clip from a 88-91 suburban at the wreckers for $80. The grille centerpeice was damaged but the rest was good! so out came the 85 rad support and in went the new one
100_0856.jpg

I put some lights on and my CB antenna in, nothing special, the lights still need to be wired
P1010812.jpg

Here is my Wireless control for my 12000 pound warn winch, that still needs to be finished.
P1010813.jpg

Did a little fender trimming
P1010807.jpg

I then Moved into the cab where I installed my tach, CB and winch remote on the dash. I also put my GPS on the dash for a speedo and to mark new trails whenever I come across them.

Lookin' good! :waytogo:

What is the red rubber tube running up the shifter?

Your front suspension is 4 leaf 52"s on B52s with 7.25" shackles correct? And the shackle hanger is in the original location? How much lift would you say you have up front and how far forward did the axle move?

looks good. in the second to last pic though your rear shackle angle looks a little extreme. also is that a power wagon behind you in the last pic?

the red tube is the breather for my tranny and tcase. im not sure why I put It there. just seemed easy at the time

and yes you are correct about my front setup. Doing it that way did not move the axle hardly at all. I used the b52 from diy4x and have the spring mounted on the second hole back from the front. Im guessing it gave me in the ballpark of 5'' of lift. those are 38.5'' boggers on there and I had to trim the fenders to make them clear better

yeah im still on the drawing board about that rear shackle angle. I dont want to move the front spring perches. and the rear perches are as far back as I can get them on the frame. They are 6'' shackles in there right now and im going to put in 7.25'' shackles to see if they help out the angle a bit. ill keep you updated

and yes thats my dads farm truck in the back of the photo it is a '79 I do belive, good eye on that one, you can hardly see the truck!

Ok time for another update. First of all I think I Finally fixed my rear shackle angle problem (at least I think its better) All I did was Take out my 6'' shackles and put in some 7.25'' shackles. it even raised the rear a little bit

AFTER:

Then I mounted a new seat and 4 point harness in the cab. Becasue I cant really afford a cage right now I mounted the seat to the floor of the truck. I used the factory seatbelt holes for my lap belt mounts. for the shoulder belts I Used my old 6'' shackles for a plate or "washer" on the back of the cab and ran the bolts in under the rear window.

I put in some rear facing lights to light up and around the box of my truck for when I am doing late night wrenching on the trail.

100_0879.jpg

And finally I splashed some more flat black paint on the rest of the truck. I love decals so I also put some more of them on.

6" or 7.25" front shackles?

Lookin' good. :waytogo:

I wouldn't be opposed to more pics of the front suspension. :D

All I managed to do this weekend was to install my shocks and mounts, I also took some suspension shots for you BGKYK5, let me know if you want any more specific shots

So I went out and bought some ford shock towers from a 1980 ford f-250 and some cheap rancho rs5000 14.5'' shocks. I started by cutting down the shock mount at the bend. then I made another angle cut on the towers. I removed the factory top shock mounts and I used those two holes and the third lower hole to mount the towers. i clamped them on, made some measurements and drilled some holes, easy as that!

So there are a few things that got added to the to do list, First is to replace a winch solenoid , clean up the connections and add some new wire.
Second is to rebild my hubs, I took the cover off and they looked pretty scary. So now I have the dilemma of buying new warn hubs that I will be taking out this winter when I plan on upgrading to 35 spline shafts or to clean up the hubs and run them as is for the trail year. i would love to upgrade to 35 spline shafts right now but the money doesnt permit.

i notice your original frame shackle hanger has bolts in it, is it just precaution or were the rivets loose?

why did you lean your front shocks back, instead of mouting them straight up and down, like most others i've seen w/ford shock towers?

i like your dash also, what are you doing to keep your eyes on the fuel level?

I think those are DIY4X shackle hangers.

Thanks for the pics, K10. How close did your shock mount come to the steering column?

Yes those are the DIY4x hangers, when I installed them I did not have a hole saw so I used the factory slots. The only reason I put the shocks where they are is to re-use the factory lower mounts so I would not need to weld on new ones, I hate Fabricating things, Im not that good at it.

And no worries on the pics, Ill take a shot of the drivers side shock tower, when im back at the shop. it comes nowhere near the Steering column, which is a bonus for me!

looking good, where is your rear diff breather hose run to and when you installed kerts shock inboarding kit, did you have to remove the bumpstop brackets? it looks like you did but i can't tell for sure
