Project MULE - Expedition build on a 1991 1500 4x4 Suburban

Cyclic is right. Don't even bother with the factory tbi. The new fuel injection kits out there are amazing and better in every way.
I also think that for what you want a LS might be a good choice for you.
When you put heads, cam, and aftermarket injection your at the cost of a ls, if not more.

Glad to see you back! Can't wait to see future progress; this is one of my favorite builds on the site:waytogo:

One of the reasons I was going originally with a TPI Vortec project was I want all the power at the bottom with an estimated 460lb of tq. LS' are all top end power. Ive read up on a few articles and posts on the TBI top end swap and I can do it for around $1,800 (all priced out) and do it in a weekend basically. Im not needing to replace a tired motor. it only has about 60k on it. Turn key LS swaps start at around $3200. Not taking a chance on some craigslist motor or even a full truck with over 100K on it. I went through three vortec motors (that was tol were good) trying to get heads and other parts and all 6 heads were cracked between the seat. So I bought brand new vortec heads btu we hit hard times so they got sold.

Yes I have all the actual TPI parts but still need a ton of small things, hardware and all new sensors. The pricing on TPI accessory brackets are high enough to make anyone depressed.

I am liking the idea of the Dynamic EFI that Cyclic recommended and that puts me over 2k just a hair and all still bolt up. I still have numbers to read up on. Still very first thing is tires as I cant even drive on the ones I had on it. Sun killed them and then A/C gets fixed. In case you have not heard even the Satan himself set "screw you guys I'm outta here, Phoenix it too hot for me!" :-)

While l admit I could use a little more bottom end torque, I really like my LS engine.

Glad you're back man.

Heads look good, only thing was pay attention to the push rod length. Apparently you might need different length ones. They will work with a roller cam, just gotta keep an eye on the push rod length.

I even added them to my summit wish list, so I can find them easy again.

So rather than read every post again up till now, what tires are you running and axle gears?

5/16" rod at 7.205" with stock rocker arms using GM performance

As for axles they are 10B front 12B rear with 4.56s both with Auburn LSDs. Cuurent tires that are shot from the sun are BFG AT 33x10.50-15 I am switching for now to Federal Couragia MTs. they are super affordable and will get us back on the road for now, about $700 for a set of 4. also found 16x8 bock steel wheel for $256 for a set.

Hey, if anyone notices broke pic links on ANY of my posts anywhere here let me know the thread link and page number please, this way I can get them fixed. Thanks!

Yeah. We are dropping the pma4x4 domain name so I need to get the pics into the parent domain. Also some pics were direct from Facebook and Facebook went and changed things. It's going to take a while but Ill get them all fixed.

Glad to see you're back, I was wondering about you and how things were doing, good to hear they're looking up for ya.
