Project - New Seats and Floors (LOTS OF PICS)

I got the panels from LMC, but to be honest, with what I have learned already I would use galvenized sheet metal next time. The panels are made to fit so many trucks that they are ver difficult to work with, and EXPENSIVE!!!

As for Pismo area, I'm not sure, I heard Garcia is more of just a fire road, but we'll see....

Tell me more about Azusa, what is it, just a mud pit, trails?

Progress...Look at the weld pictures, one weld is nice, the other one is my trying to fill a 1/4" gap...

I've never seen a K5's floors opened up. I thot they were like my Sub's but my Subs don't have that second 'floor' to them. Seems like that would be a great place to store something. Make access doors in the floor and put in baffles, if needed, to keep things from sliding beyond reach.

I was wondering the same thing. I know the holes in my floor show the ground below and let the heat form the exhaust in.

BTW...Looking good.

Dooh...forgot the pics...

P/S/ Some of you may be asking, why the "heck does this dude post som many lame pictures?"

Two reasons, first becasue all the pictures I look at help me decide how I want to approach each project and secondly because I can...:D

galvanized metal is very horrible for welding applications. even when you grind the zinc off at your weld zones, it still never welds quite right, the fumes are real bad on your health as well.

Count me out for Miller next week, I'll be out of town, but I'm thinking of a trip somewhere in September...strike the galvinized, and just go for sheet metal....

are you going to replace the hump over the transmission while you're in there? you've done too nice a job not to.

X's 2, stay AWAY from galvi. its bad stuff when you weld it. as BUDDYRAMMIT said even grinding it away does not make it much better. I have had minor galvi. poisoning and it sucks. a severe case can be dangerous. colr rolled sheet is the best stuff to use.

My rule of thumb is:
If you can taste metal in your mouth, STOP!
Get a respirator rated for welding plated metals or get some metal that isn't plated.

Yeah, I sucked a little fumes yesterday and it was not bueno...as for the hump, I will clean it up an rust bullet the entire interior next week...I used 2 pounds of hard wire to weld those two sheets in...Ha

updates?

i can see your pics now lol

is that the grey seats?

I have their black ones but for the rear bench they only offer 2 color choices.

Yup, those are the grey seats. I was going to get black, but then decided grey would be better because a) they would match the rear bench and b) not get as hot in the sun....

Next steps:
1) Grind, wire brush and sand the interior
2) Rust Bullet
3) Herculine
4) Stringers off the roll cage for th eseats
5) Mount my seats
6) Go break my truck!

Update...Ok, got everything sanded, grinded and wiped down with acetone...and the first coat of Rust Bullet is ON!!!

P.S. this is VERY important - No matter how much money is on the line, or how much you want to prove your neighbor wrong do not under any circumstances drink acetone...the results are NEVER good.

Did you ride the red limo?:haha:

I dont hangout with you for a couple of weekends and you go and have all the fun without me:D. When do you plan on putting the Herculiner on because I want to see how it comes out? Also I think I am going to go buy a compressor because trying to take apart my hummer beadlocks by hand is almost impossible, very rusty.

Herculiner coat #1...I'm thinking three coats is the way to go, teh first coat used less than 1/3 of the gallon and I have a gallon and a quart...
