id love to do that someday.i used to live in fairbanks when i was a kid.id have to have 50 gallon drums of fuel in the back or else i couldnt get very far as my truck gets about 10 mpg.or .5mpg while wheeling.lol.

Well, not much that I can post for progress as compared to before, but I did manage to get a few things done this last weekend... I didn't think to take any pictures though, please forgive me! :doah:

Anyways, I didn't have a whole bunch of time this last weekend as I attended the wedding of a college buddy on Saturday but I was hoping to get my front axle bolted in. I stopped by the offroad shop that is building the axle, and found that the guy was literally just putting it on the stand to get started on it. I figured it'd be cool to watch and learn how to set a diff up, and got his blessing to do so. We got the diff set up pretty much perfect, but on our final install we broke the copper line off the ARB locker :doah::doah:So, I didn't wind up getting my axle back as hoped.

So, instead, I went to a local spring shop and bought a brand new set of 52" springs to put in up front. I got home, and got to figuring what I needed for bushings. Winds up the bushings that came with the SAS rear shackle are perfect. So I got a hold of ORD and figured out what make they are, then was able to find an Energy Suspension kit that had a similar set of bushings in it locally yesterday. I also picked up some new hardware to install them with and called in to my local Napa to order everything I need to rebuild the rest of the D60.

So, this Friday I'll pick up my axle and the rest of the parts, then get to installing it all. I should have everything but the shock tabs and front shocks here and installed by the end of the long weekend.

As far as progress went this last weekend -- I finished installing and wiring up my ARB switches and routed the air lines around. I installed a regulator before the manifold the ARB switches are on to reduce the air pressure as required. I also went to install my rear brake lines but ran into a bit of a road block when I discovered that the extended brake line I purchased is still way too short to be used. My buddy has a ranger that he bought some super long lines for and it looks like we may be able to just trade. It looks like my front lines should work out alright though. Worst case scenario, I'll have a couple of lines made up locally instead.

I also recieved and installed my new PMD which got put in just under my driver's seat. Should be fairly cool under there, and safe from moisture / vibrations. It is super nice to have the truck starting reliably and starting properly too! I had to cut the exhaust to fit the rear SAS bracket in, so it sounds pretty sweet right now too, haha! I'll also be installing my HAM radio under there, so I ran some heavy gauge power wires at the same time as routing the PMD wiring.

Oh, and I got the call that my ARB front bumper has arrived! :woot: Pictures to come this next weekend!

Oh, and just entered a purchase order on one of these to go with the ARB front bumper!

http://www.tacticalarmorgroup.com/T...75/List/1/Level/a/productid/1697/Default.aspx

I ordered one with a CB antenna mount, swing out tire carrier, gas can carrier, hi lift carrier and d-ring shackle mounts for recovery points. I'll be keeping the stock hitch right where it is to protect the fuel tank

Be careful. That is the same company called Kennesaw Mountain, they had the worst rep in the world. Either they sold their business or just renamed it, but its the same exact catelog they had years ago and same products. when I bought my bumpers from them, never again. They have the worst customer service in the world and once they get your money they are a real douche and dont want to talk to you.

dont expect anything they offer to be "true bolt on" , I had to cut the rear frame to make it fit, they failed to mention this to me and I had to have 4x4 fab shop mount my bumper and what company paints their bumpers and then wraps it in plastic and ships it the same day. When I got my bumpers and had to peal the plastic off, all the WET paint came with it. The order was suppose to take a month, it took 4. Never again. They can go rot in hell.

I also removed the HighLIft from the bumper, it did nothing but get muddy and dirty, once I got my roll bar I moved it inside and was able to clean up the look of the bumper.

Also. I modified my rear bumper by adding a gas can carrier.

I also added this latch, the spring latch that the bumper comes with will eventually wallow out the hole it goes in and cause the bumper to make a loud "BANGing" noise when off roading.

I also cut off the license plate mount and moved my plate to the spare tire, this worked out good, just extend the license plate light wire to fit. Plus this also hides the lug nuts on your spare, makes it a lil harder to steal. lol

where can i buy that kind of latch??

Hmm, that's not good news! I saw one or two good reviews on a few other Tahoe threads and went for it. I hope it doesn't take 4 months to arrive, that would suck!

I guess we shall see where it goes from here...

Well, I sent an email to Kyle, and he gave me a 4 - 6 week delivery time frame. I've got 90 days coverage on my Visa card, so if he doesn't come through within his time frame, I'll be having Visa return my money and they can deal with him.

Seems like since his name change, it can go either way. Some guys say the bumper fits great and came within a reasonable amount of time, others spent years getting it in the first place, and yet others day they got it but it doesn't fit at all.

I suppose we'll see where it goes!

Why dont you just build your own bumper I would think your more than capable?

You'd think so, but I am useless when it comes to fabrication. I am able to weld just well enough to get by, but it is far from pretty. I can't cut straight or square to save my life and I have no clue about how to build things strong enough.

I can wire up a gen III engine no problem, and bolt stuff together like anyone but don't ask me to build a bumper or something haha!

I am in the midst of the planning stages of building a little shop down here in Fort Mac. I am definitely building it fabrication friendly... I am putting full 100 amp service out to the shop in 240V and building a ventilation system into the building to keep the air relatively fresh inside.

I've bought myself a plasma cutter and a chop saw. My next big purchase is going to be a 240V MIG / stick welder combo machine, then start gluing metal together until I am a little bit better at it, haha!

I would like to take the leaf springs out of the Tahoe and put it on coils sooner than later, and it would be great to learn how to do it myself! I also need to build a cage at some point too...

Well just as long as your ready for the CK5 Alaska trip next year!!

Finally got my front axle back today, and also picked up my ARB bumper :D Front axle is bolted in, rear is definitely gonna need a couple more inches of lift to match the front, probably need 4" lift springs after I've added all the extra junk in the box and have it weighed down.

12:45AM here, I am going to bed. Pictures coming tomorrow!

Holding you to this.

Well, I worked my butt off all day but didn't make much visual progress :doah:

I got the Chevy outers off my K5, and swapped the Ford stuff on and bled it's brakes. I also snagged the front output flange from the K5's t-case and put it onto the Tahoe's t-case. It looks like I will have to cut the yolk off the end of the Tahoe's stock driveshaft and weld on the CV from one of my spare K5 driveshafts to make sure my 4x4 works for the time being. I'll have to get a new flange for the K5's t-case before it is able to run in 4x4 again.

I got the passenger side outers finished up on the Tahoe and ran a new brake line over to that side. The factory line ran down along the original crossmember and was way too long. As you can see, I've got the ARB bumper brackets installed. Hopefully I'll get it installed tomorrow with the M1200.

So, tomorrow I'll finish rebuilding everything on the driver's side and get it all installed. I'll bleed the brakes front and rear and tighten up my front springs. I'll then finish mounting my tires to the bead locks and install them on the truck. Hopefully I can do something with the front driveshaft as well. At that point, the truck should be able to drive out of the shop... I still need to do some work on the OBA and get some shocks mounted just before I take it on a shakedown run in the mountains next weekend. I also need to get it taken to the exhaust shop next week while I am at work as well, but that isn't really a requirement, I don't mind straight piped 6.xL diesel trucks :haha:

As promised, snapped a few pictures for you guys!
