Project Penny - All good things must come to an end

Ok I'll be the voice of reason. Just fix the 60 you have now! All you need to do is something fairly simple in the grand scheme of things assuming you are going to have someone else actually do the fix.

Ok I'm done being the voice of reason, so if you have the money, do the fabed axle! Then, what I would do is still get the 60 fixed and put it in the front of the Tahoe!

Normally I would agree to just fix the Dana 60 and get it going but this is like the never ending story with this front axle. It's just plain cursed. Kick it to the curb and get a fab-ulous one

Agreed. There comes a point where you just run out of places to put band aids on. Best just replace it outright and build it right the first second third fourth time.

I just read this thread again front to back. I miss the days when I used to blow all my cash on trucks and go on epic trips with them.

I haven't driven Penny since May, when I evacuated the Fort Mac wildfire. I used her to haul an enclosed trailer loaded with my wife's stuff when I fled the flames. It drove like crap, as per usual, and hasn't moved since except to bring it over to the new house when we moved in August. Her registration expired back in July as well, and I haven't bothered to renew it.

I think I need to let this truck go and start parting it out to pull together the funds I need to put a new one together. 30 and married with a big mortgage to pay is a big difference from single and 23 with a seemingly limitless truck budget and time to burn lol

I've got an 03 Escalade that I am way more eager to build than to fix everything wrong with Penny's front suspension. I've got around $1500 a month set aside to work on my truck projects, so I can definitely get this stuff done financially.

I've also got a 98 ZJ that is a quarter built for the EMC. I've had it sitting on my trailer for some time now. It won't sell unless I make it a runner and get some springs under it. Not sure if I wanna bother or not yet. I'm excited by the prospect of the SAS'd Caddy, but the ZJ just feels like a lot of work.

Love The 2 door, but what's the thought for the escalade? Sticking with stock 6.0l?

Escalade plans include a 2005 LLY Duramax Diesel, ZF6-650 transmission & NP241. H2 14BSF rear axle, 07+ F350 D60 front axle. As little lift as possible for 35s. I'll step up to 37s if I can't make it low enough to look right on 35s. Front will likely be radius arms and the rear the factory parallel 4 link. I'll go with coil springs and shocks all around. Not looking for a rock crawler or a desert racer. Just a DD which can handle some mild trails around here in the winter.

The ZJ is supposed to be the hardcore vehicle, but I just don't know if I want to finish it.

h2 14bsf excites me. E locker baby.

Escalade sounds cool. Sad to see penny go, but if you are already set on it, at least get something going and post some pics for us. We need more cool builds around here.

Why not use the engine setup from penny in the escalade?

I'd actually be happy to do this, since it is a really good powertrain, but the 02 control system that runs the engine doesn't play nice with the 03+ electrical system in the Escalade. Finding a complete 03/04 LB7 / ZF6 wiring harness and PCM is about as easy as find hens teeth.
