Welp. The transmission leak still persists but since I had everything cleaned up I can see it leaking out the lower most cooler line for the transmission.

No driving this weekend either. :rolleyes2:

Have to find a replacement line or look through my uncles shop of everything for one.
 
I just recently had an 8 year old Optima poop out on me. It would charge up fine, but then be dead by the next morning. It was causing all sorts of starting and running issues.

Yep. Optima probably not what it used to be.

Decided I’m just going to cut and reflare the line. Appears to be leaking right at the nut.
 
Alright. Found the issue with the flooding. The power valve on this carb was all out of whack. The spring was all the way open dumping fuel into the manifold. I don’t know how or why it started doing this as I didn’t touch anything on the carburetor. Put it back to factory specs and am about to crank it over with a new set of plugs.

I just cranked it over with plugs removed and quite a bit of fuel came out. Glad I did it before ruining a new set of plugs and cleared the cylinders.

Still have a small leak at the transmission. Not leaking like it was as I now think it was the combination of gasket and line. Will get that line cut and reflared tonight.
 
Welp.

Took it to get some gas. Put $82 in it. Got back and sounds like I have a rod knocking or possibly piston slap.

Great.

Hanging it up for a while.
 
Could be timing. Could be vacuum. Could be a plethora of anything.

But it sounds like a Diesel engine. Which isn’t good.

I am leaning towards the distributor itself.

I put a super old distributor in this. Going to swap it out for a Holley street fire and see what happens. New cap too.

Hopefully it’s just timing related. I’m so sick to my stomach I don’t even want to think about it lol
 
Alright. Plan is to get it totally dialed in today.

My trans TV cable doesn’t have a button it’s a really weird style I’ve never seen before and I adjusted it the wrong direction last night. Getting that fixed up today.

Still have a small exhaust leak on the passenger side header where I can’t reach to tighten the bolt further down.

Power steering main line is toast and don’t want to ruin my pump.

It felt so good to be back on the road though.

So close yet so far!
 
I was paying so much attention to the motor on the test drive. It was so quiet in the cab!

Huge difference in cab noise from rebuilding the wing window levers. All I did was added a small o-ring to the outside part of the lever. Worked great!

Got the exhaust leaks fixed.

Power steering still has a drip from the housing. But the lines are fixed.

Now the carburetor is squirting fuel like a fountain straight into the air.

Rebuild it or buy a new one?

What do you guys run on your set ups carb wise? Would be nice to get something that won’t drop fuel into the intake at inclines.

That’s interesting. Proving my old man right. He loved his Quadra pukes.

I have a bin full of them somewhere. Probably 25 4bbl Quadra pukes. Just need to find them lol
 
I like a well tuned Q-jet. The one on my big block threw a big fit after I installed a small roller cam and bumped the compression. Sean Murphy Induction made it all better!!
 
Just remembered I sold the whole lot of carbs at the last swap meet. They were all just parts and pieces for rebuilding them. But probably had enough parts to build a couple.

I think I have three options.

Q-jet
Truck Avenger
Or Sniper EFI

I’m leaning towards a Qjet though
