PSC steering ram

If i had to do it all over again, i would still purchase the PSC ram. Just remember, PSC is only the supplier of this ram not the builder of it. After all the different rams i looked at this one is by far the best looking ram out there. Once i get it on and see that it doesn't leak or have any other problems then i'll be 100% satisfied.

I don't boubt that you will be satisfied 100%.
I bought a complete Hyd Assist system from PSC, 3-4 Years ago...it was great.

What really gets me is when a company that I want to do business with starts acting the fool. If something goes wrong, and it is the vendors fault, Don't lie about it and backtrack your words. Just do the right thing.

Maybe it is all because I am the Mayor of Pessimistic Island" but I have been hearing negative things about PSC lately. Not just here. So far NONE of it has been about the products, just customer service and incorrect/wrong information dealing with shipping times and product availability. It just makes me weary, and saying that they are only the supplier and not the builder does nothing for me.

The car dealer down the street does not build the cars and trucks that it is selling. Should they not be held responsible if your brand new Chevy 3500 mistakenly came with a V-6 instead......? You tell me.

I'm not disagreeing that they shouldn't step up to the plate and admit that they made a mistake and that they had wrong info on their website, i'm just saying that the product in question wasn't built by them so you can't get upset at them about the shaft size being different than what they said it was. I made a call to Mertz engineering who make the rams for them and the guy was really shocked that i knew they make the rams for PSC. It was actually a funny phone call to say the least. I did verify with Mertz though that they do not make any 1.5" ram with a .75" diameter shaft for PSC.

I'll just run mine, and if it ever bends, then I'll know I need to look for something better. But, I doubt very seriously that day (when I bend a ram rod) will ever come, so I think I'll be sleeping pretty easy.

I think I'll take it with me to the hydr place close to my house, and get my lines & fittings, and get the owners opinion on it.

I found a hydraulic hose and fittings shop about 2 miles from my house today that just opened 3 days ago. Went in and bought a couple fittings and ask how much to make me a hose 4' long with 90* -6 female fittings on each end, $27.00 out the door.

I have the 1.75"x8" ram sitting here. Ordered it through the shop i work at since we did a buy in with them. They are about an hour away from me. Ordered the ram on a monday and the ram should have been at the shop by that thursday. Wasnt here, we shut down shop sat.-tuesday for 4th of july, came in that Wednesday we came back!! I should have just went and picked it up from PSC.

Why do I get a login to PSC motorsports every time I do anything with this thread?

Ira

I only get it on page 2 of the thread. I think the ad is copy pasted, so it must have carried over some type of prompt for it.

OMG, im never going to the local machine shop again....

Go in asking to have 2 90* fittings put on my hydro hose since 2 of them are the wrong fittings for my PSC. Come back an hour later, he hands me my old lines and 2 new lines.... Im like OK cool. Then he tells me the price..

I nearly shart myself. 96 BUCKS!!!

So i had the guy do what i originally asked for, put 2 new fittings on my hoses. STILL 40 BUCKS!!!

Found a shop here locally who will supply me with 2 4' hoses with 90* fittings on both ends for $54.00. The place is called Morse hydraulics. They only opened up on last monday so i'm not sure their website is up and running yet.

Here is my .02 from someone who dealt with PSC when they first opened. My understanding, and someone can correct me if I have details wrong, is that Tom used to be the owner of AGR. He sold AGR and got out of the business. When Tom had AGR, the company had a very good reputation. Tom worked for years for GM I believe and knew his business. He signed a no competition clause for a year or more stating he couldn't go back into the same business and compete with AGR. That is pretty standard when you sell a business. So, time goes by and Tom decides he misses the business and opens PSC. Not long after this, I am in the market for a power steering pump and gear box for my crossover conversion.

I call PSC many times and receive excellent phone service ala Jesse at HAD. Tom spent lots of time discussing all my options, is very helpful, and patient. End result is that I buy my stuff from him. All of it comes and looks to be high quality. I run into an issue with the back of the reservoir tube hitting the manifold and we ship the pump back and forth several times. I eat some shipping but they make the problem right. I was very impressed with the company.

Fast forward to recently. I am having problems with the belt slipping on the power steering. I think I may have a pump problem. I call PSC and get someone besides Tom. He was ok on the phone but not that helpful. I sent an e-mail as well and got a pretty vague response. I am guessing here that Tom has brought PSC back up to the level of where AGR was before. They are pretty well known and probably very busy. Their product line has expanded considerably from when I first dealt with them. I suspect that Tom had to hire some help to answer e-mails and phone calls. Clearly the quality of service has declined under his new hirees. Hopefully he will realize this and rectify it. I will say that his products though remain good and I would buy from them again.

My thoughts exactly. Too bad that Tom probably does not even know.....:doah:

The wife just told me to get my ram and crap for my Birthday cause "I have no idea what to get you or what you want for your stupid truck":D . I dont know which way to go know. The ram that PSC sells is 5/8 so it is really only 1/8 inch smaller will it really make that much of a strength dif. It will also make the stroke strength more equal due to the increased surface area of the piston on the ram side.

Ira

I thought it was 11/16, but now that I look again. .625 = 5/8 huh.
You could always get the 1.75" ram Ira. Whenever you get it let me know and I will bring the welder down again.

Hopefully the weather is a little cooler.

You dont think 1.75 will be too slow?

Ira

Who knows. I hear some people say that 2" is ok. I think the only way to tell is to try it.

That said, Spending $200 is an expensive way to test the waters. I am going to go with the 1.5" as of now, just in case.

I am thinking of staying with the 1.5 also as I only run 37s and when I can afford 42s if the ram aint strong enough I will get a larger one or a better pump.:D Since I still drive it on the road ram speed is more critical than brute force I think.

Ira

As far as force goes, the 1.5" will have plenty of force even for larger tires. The only real concern is the shaft diameter and it's only a concern if you have standard location tie rod and constantly bash it on rocks or other things which could bend your tie rod which would in turn bend the hydro shaft. If you don't have any troubles hitting things on your tie rod or have a beefy tie rod then the .625" shaft won't be a problem. PSC ram is by far the nicest ram i've seen out there.
