Put your Blazer on a diet

IMHO, in this case any possible weight gain it worth it for the better traction control. If a person did it on the cheap (me), Using shocks, coild springs out of something and then DOM tubing and then regular bracket fabrication, 85 pounds per side might be hard to hit. Even if you do, By the time you put a good traction control onto a longer leaf, Real links looks much better.

Linking might be my winter project. /forums/images/graemlins/deal.gif

One of the reasons or excuses as to why I'm not installing the 63s I have is weight. As stephen mentioned, they weigh 85 lbs a piece. A set of 52s weighs a lot less, can't say exactly what, but I'd bet 50 something. But then when I took the 63s to be weighed for shipping(turned out that was out of the question) I thought they weighed 60 something and I was just being weak....

and as far as winter projects go, I think mine will be a full tube trail machine /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif shall see, depends on schooling and money at the time.

Full tube machine! /forums/images/graemlins/eek.gif

Didnt you have this nice red Blazer just a little bit ago? /forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif

ok, went to the dump after the hacking pile got too big,
2 front. fenderwells
2 rear fenderwells
2/3 of rear bumper
1/3 of the rear floor pan
carpet & padding
just that was 230 lbs /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif sure didnt look like it. and after removing the doors, top, tailgate, and other stuff it seem to look like it got a 3" lift in the rear /forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif now i just need to get the front work done and get that warn tank bumper hacked down /forums/images/graemlins/weld.gif

yeah, I sure do miss that red thing too /forums/images/graemlins/ignore.gif I just miss having a really nice looking K5. Oh well I will build another one. For now the Blue machine will get bounced off trees /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif then donate its guts to a trail buggy or go on living who knows.

I know when I got done cutting on mine, the whole suspension raised up 1.5". One trip to the dump was about 400 pounds! That was with the roof and the front skinned out parts, carpet and all that junk.

Sound slike you are cutting more off of the rear then I did.

Sandman, how far have you gotten on your lexan glass? Clearview of all places is doing my rear window. I think in the future they will be doing the front as well. The rear window in my topper is a little larger than factory and will only weigh 10 lbs. at 3/16" thick. Anybody know the weight of the factory rear glass?

I havnt done anything to be honest. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

10 pounds seems pretty good to me. I know the glass I removed was much heavier then that.

I plan on doing it in a few weeks. I have to put on the hydraulic assist and the floor shifter first. Its all just sitting on the garage floor. I also have an aluminum radiator that I need to put on. I planned on weighing the Brass 4 core and the aluminum 2 core to see the difference there.

I'd be curious on the weight of the two radiators as well. Keep us posted.

ok, here ya go. its been pissing rain for weeeks so its been halted... still workin on the rear pass side, has to come in 3" more ( ( note the vise grips ) )
Jimmyrear.jpg

That is a good amount. Mine only went in 9.5". I could not really go in more without the sheet metal going over the door pillers looking bad.

How far in is that?

I came inboard 23 inches on each side minus a 2-3/4 inch width of the rear panel so I got about 21" of narrowing on each side
=42" of narrowing total for the rear /forums/images/graemlins/woot.gif /forums/images/graemlins/woot.gif /forums/images/graemlins/woot.gif /forums/images/graemlins/woot.gif /forums/images/graemlins/woot.gif /forums/images/graemlins/woot.gif

I didnt start at the door pillars I started right behing and just cut the top 8" so it would bend, screw it itll weld up /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif Id like to bob it but the gas tank is a PITA to move forward with the frame brace right there in front of it /forums/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

move the tank man. tank being there is only hurting your departure angle and you will rub and smack it on rocks plenty of times. I say leave the exhaust as it is too /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

uglychevy, that looks really good. What are you going to do about the exhaust? Cut it or leave it? /forums/images/graemlins/peace.gif

I'm pretty sure he's gonna leave it like it is since you don't want to spend good money on tips and not have them blatantly visable... /forums/images/graemlins/deal.gif

Oh I see. You cut along the outside sheetmetal so it would bend in. Thats not a bad idea. I didnt have a welder at home so I had to work with limitations.

I plan on moving my gas tank up into the bed floor, cutting a hole and dropping it in. I plan on using the 20 gal version and ditching my 30 gallon one so that it does not hang down as low. That might be an idea for you.

Are you moving the front in as well?

[/ QUOTE ]well if i rig up some fishing line i can double as a troller in the river /forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif /forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif

I wish I had just cut mine all the way down to the body line. I made small cuts along the top and over the radius just a little. Kinda relief cuts I guess. I wanted more of a rounded look.

it'll get mangled on the rocks though
