Quadrajet experts?

I've been very happy with Jet I've bought 5 or 6 carbs from them they use to offer kits to IIRC

I talked to a few different places. Jet seems to offer the most complete service. I like the fact that they ask for engine specs.

Probably ship the carb to them tomorrow. I'll snap some pics of what it looks like now and get a couple more when it comes back.

Thats a pretty good deal Id say. any other new or reman cab is 300+ usually, and you get it built to be close for the engine its going on.

There customer service is good . every carb they've done for me has come back perfect barely even had to adjust the idle

Spoke with Jet today.

$269.00 plus return shipping to do the carb and get it back to me. I forgot to ask the turn around time.

They also require a spec sheet for the engine to bench tune to the requirements.

That number includes all the dipping and plating and so forth. When returned it should appear as new.

I may call a few others yet.
For that price it may be worth it for me to send in my spare carb, have it built up, then swap it on once it get's back.

You and the demon aren't having fun? Make sure the carb you send is at least a 750. A sbc quad will be too small for the 500. I know a few people who have cadillac quads they might part with:wink1: I mention that cuz I don't know if you have any from your engine stash. PS many of gramma's cars got a parts store rebuild that came off a chevy so it will have the wrong rods in it. And be too small. Jet should do a good job. But be prepared to have to futz with the rods on it. :wink1:

The quad i'm sending is a cadillac quadrajet. Should be an 850. Not getting along with the demon at all. It's WOT performance is outstanding. Outside of that, it seems to be incredibly finnicky. I think if I were driving WOT all the time 1/4 mile at a time, it'd be the carb to have.

^I've heard that alot with Demons. One of my buddies bought an 800 Holley back from me cause he hated his Demon.

Here's a before shot of the carb. When it returns I'll get another photo for comparison sake.

smicarburetorthis guy used to work for Jet and is very good with the Q-jet's I'm happy with what he did on mine.

Shawn Murphy at SMI does beautiful work, and carb is setup for your specific engine and truck specs. Thought I'd weigh-in for those reading this post. I used one of his for my 410 stroker, unbelievable throttle response and no 'quadBog'.:D

Will they do this without dipping and plating it for cheaper? I just want my carb perfectly functional, I could give a crap if it looks new. 300 bucks is a lot to shell out when I already need quite a few other things.

I doubt it, but you could always call them and see what they say. Most of the cost is in the actual cleanup and setup of the carb, and that can be very time consuming especially for shaft bushings. Not to mention, for $300 you can't get a 'good' offroad carb new, and these will perform like new when they come back.

I have no idea what they will and won't chop out of their services. I don't think the dip is gona save ya much though.

Like everybody else stated, that's a small part of the work. You can send in your old carb, or buy one of his. Here is a link to his site that explains the modifications he does, depending on the level of tuning. You can also call him direct, he usually answers the phone himself....remarkable in this day and age.

I bought a stage 2 carb from him, think it was around $325, including shipping.

Update, January 8th my carb was delivered. It's on its way back today. When I spoke to the man on the phone, it had been finished within the last day or so. Figuring 9-10 day turn around. Not too bad.

Should be here in 4-5 days UPS ground. Will update when it arrives.

Please, keep us informed. I am getting ready to start the 383 build for Krusty, and the carb will be going to get all setup for the new engine. If Jet does it well, I will certainly spend the cash to have them do it for mine.
