Quadrajet experts?

Yep really want to hear how it went, I need my carb for my crew cab done and its needs rebushed so I can't do that (or don't want to) Unless I can pickup the TBI of another 454 for the same as the carb rebuild :D

bump up to the top, gona load up some pics of the returned carb in just a moment.

Here's what the brown truck brought me today. I just about forgot to take pics and cut open the box before I got the camera out.

Packing inside was awesome. No less than 24' of bubble wrap. My 6 year old was exstatic!!

Carb was bagged up inside all the padding as well.

The carb itself. Some of the stuff on the outside of the carb is not new but it has all been cleaned and some evidence of wirebrushing on the threads of some fittings. Looks to be in great shape.

And a shot of the bottom.

In the bottom of the box they included a base gasket, air cleaner gasket and a new wire pigtail for the electric choke as well as a tuning sheet to help you set it up on the engine.

So Kert you supplied the carb....it looked pretty dirty, was it in running shape before?
And would you mind throwing a ballpark figure out there for the completion cost.
It looks great, I know you want to get it running now.

Yep, I supplied the carb. Not sure on the before condition. I kept it off of one of the caddy motors I have saved for my builds. I'm sure every seal in it was bone dry.

Cost was $269.00 for the rebuild if memory serves. Trip out to them was done via USPS flat rate large box, at that time was $13.50 and then a ride back from jet for some where around the same. Right at $300 said and done. Nice part about this swap for me, It was off a cadillac motor so it'll bolt right back on again, no adapters. Carb linkage is same as any other GM so that's a direct bolt and go as well. I think I still have some throttle cables around for the Cadillac motor as well so that should be pretty straight forward too.

One last bonus that i keep forgetting, I get to sell the Demon that is on there now and can probably recoup the entire cost of the rebuild/swap.

Are the caddy baseplates different from the chevy's?

Looking at the pics for comparison, the SMI carb I rec'd looks like a supermodel. I purchased my carb outright (no exchange), and it looked like it came off the showroom floor...maybe better. However, it didn't come w/ the elect. choke pigtail, got one from Summit. I've had it on the rig for a year now, works flawless. The only thing I did was fatten up the secondary rods and adjusted the secondary plate. Sean puts out a great product and it's personalized for your setup. Good luck w/ your quadrajet.:D

I hope to expect the same from JET....I was going to run a truck avenger, but have heard a couple mixed reviews about them, but also some good ones. I haven't heard anything bad about JET, so I went with them. I did try to contact SMI, but they wouldn't return 2 emails after more than a week, so I moved on.

Q jet has been in place for quite some time now. All I had to do was install it and set the idle. Very simple. Runs great now. No flooding at startup or partial throttle anymore. It's a great feeling. It starts with a simple flick of the key.

Would I do it this way again? Absolutely. Not one single regret about the process.

The carb just took me to Moab Utah and back and is one of the few things I had no issues with.

Cool!

Thanks.

I always believed they would rock when properly set up.:thumb:

An unsung hero!
