I don't have any experience with the Dodge IFS setup at all, or with their 1/2 tons even, but, 37's on IFS and lighter duty brakes, axles etc just sounds like a recipe for wearing stuff out quickly. Rams are not known for having the best front ends to begin with and adding in a tire/wheel package that is a substantial amount bigger and heavier then stock just sounds like a lot of extra stress and wear. Not to mention, is that truck re geared? If not it is most likely a little doggy performance wise, is the speedo accurate ? Who did the lift and how well was it done ?

Just some things to think about. It does look good, but even on a 2500 if its not a diesel or geared high from the factory 37's are going to eat a lot of power and kill mpg not to mention, again, depending on if it's been regeared or not, the trans may have been working a lot harder then normal with those big tires.

I have a couple of customers with lifted 1500s. I would compare it to a Chevy 1/2 ton ifs. 37s are pretty big for it. I would hold out for a gasser 2500.

Ram

Yeah that's my concerns. I had a 03 Chevy 2500 and with a lift and 33's it was a concern for me. The truck is nice looking but 20k and headaches is a little much. Thanks for confirming.

Up until 2010 I would agree. But the newer ones are awesome.

Wait until the diesel 1/2 ton comes out in a couple months. 420 tg. 8 spd trans. 28mpg. All proven components. Just saying.

I wouldnt buy any form of a dodge with a gas motor... Just way better off with a Chevy for a gasser.

Why? I have a 07 2500 gasser and have absolutely No complaints about it power wise...

It will hold up to 37s without a whole lot of abnormal wear and tear.

They seem to align better than Chevys, I think I would put them just a notch above a Chevy for components lasting longer.

I have only lifted 2 of em though

They sure have a much better rear axle

Wait on 08 has the AAM axle not sure if its better or not never worked on one.

A bit older had the 9.25 a great rear axle

If it's an automatic you want to be especially mindful of gearing and stress on the transmission. The newer ones are better, but Chrysler automatics have always been the Achilles heel of Ram trucks.

its still a 9.25". it's made by aam now

the newer rams have a really tough tranny. not like the one that came behind the 5.2/5.9 engines

Not talking about power. Just motor longevity and overall opinion. I know the 4.7 is a piece of junk and has bottom end issues. Not sure about the "Hemi" motors but never cared for dodges. Ive always said the only reason in the world to buy a dodge truck is if you want a cummins. I liked ford gas motors before the triton came out but the 5.4 is really the definition of a piece of crap.

Ram

Thanks guys for the info. I've been focused on the 2500 Ram. It seems like a better choice if I want to lift it or get one lifted already. If I find a great deal on a 1500, I would leave it stock. I like the Ram's look, not really a Ford guy (bad luck in the past). The newer Chevy's also don't appeal to me, GM has those huge wheel wells that you can't put any tire in. Plus my last (new) truck was 03 2500 Silverado and that went tits up on my at the five year mark.

Does anyone have any experience with a Ram truck equipped with the Ram storage box?

Only that it sucks you can't get it on a Cummins :doah:, when I bought my 11 I was checking out a 1/2 ton in the showroom that had it, definitely pretty slick :pimp:

It really shrinks the bed down. Short beds are small enough already. Add that and its worse. But there is plenty of room in the boxes.

Ram

I'm going to have to hold out for a 2500 with Ram storage. A 1/2 ton would suit me and my needs, but if I'm gonna take on car note I might as well get something more versatile.

Ram Options

I got two different dealers trying to get me into a Ram.

Truck choices:

1) A 2009 used (37K miles) 1500 with Ram storage for $25K

2) A 2013 Power Wagon with Ram Storage for $49K

3) A 2013 2500 (Diesel) Tradesman with Ram Storage for $47K

Now the practical side of me is looking at the 1500. But the unpractical side of me likes the other two vehicles, both of which would mean higher fuel cost and huge car note. I'm pretty sure what people here would say but lets hear it!

I love pw's but I'm saying no because the diesel is cheaper. But that is almost freeking double the price of the half ton!

Either of those 2.
