How long of an extension do you need?
Plus its been my experience that 220 motors last longer than 110s. When I bought my compressor 220 was a requirement and I bought the stuff and added in a 220 plug where I wanted it.I'd say its normal,I cant touch the compressor head on mine once its been run a few minutes (mine takes a good 4 or 5 minutes from zero to full pressure though)....air gets HOT when compressed, thats how diesels run without spark plugs, the heat produced by high compression will ignite the fuel..
I found out the flywheel pulley on mine was on the compressor facing the wrong way,(it has an arrow casted on it to indicate the rotation)--and the spokes on the flywheel pulley are angled to work as a fan, when I flipped it around the other way it helped it to run cooler--lord knows how long the prevoius owner ran it like that!..
