rcfatcats 78k5- Boostedk5 2.0

Got a small amount of work done last night. Bend tech uses these awesome cutting templates for notching the tube. Works really well for notch's that intersect at a bend of another tube where a hole saw style notcher won't work.
The print outs.

You cut it out and wrap it around the tube at a measurement from the end of the tube.
I used a cut of wheel and grinder to do the notch. Only took about five minutes per notch.
Completed notch.

It fits absolutely perfect. Makes things very very simple.

This weekend I'm going to build the floor plates and start cutting and notching the crossbracing. Hoping to have the front portion of the cage complete and finished welded by the end of the weekend.
Pic showing a pillar gap that got even tighter once the tube was notched and siting properly.

Yeah unfortunatly life has just been crazy busy over the last year all culminating to me having a snow mobile accident and getting severely injured in January. Broken neck and back...:dunno: but in terms of the truck I'll post up some picks and try for some video for you guys tonight or tomorrow. But I'll leave a tease for you.....

It does direct third gear boosted launches and spins all 4 tires no issue:burnout::burnout:

it's time for me to get back on track. This build is getting revamped and a new chassis is getting started. I've done way to much rushing this past year and have paid the price on it. The truck has multiple cracks and bends in the frame from lack of proper reinforcement and there are too many unfinished projects (boat sides, cage, etc) unfortunatly I'm at the point now where I just have no desire to continue hacking this thing back together. I'd much rather start fresh on a new chassis. Do it once and do it correctly.

So the plan is this. I'll be retaining my driveline and basic suspension setup but the new body and frame will be getting a different cage design and better reinforcement before it gets the beating I'll put it through.

Some changes in the plans:
52in front springs.
Daystar bumps (will convert to air bumps later)
King/fox 2.5 shocks
Antirock sway bar
Designing a full truss setup for leaf springs.
5:13 gears.
A different boat side design that won't stress the body so much.
Full 2" .120 wall dom cage with some 1.75 .120 supports.
Full convertible conversion

It's always been my goal to have an all around rig that I can possibly race at line mountain or rausch(if they ever bring back rcrocs) but I'm not building it strictly for that. It will also be street driven.
So that's the plan for now. I also am fully committed to being more in depth with this build thread along the way.

In other news be on the lookout for another build thread I'll be starting for my dads truck. He picked up a 1974 full vert that will be getting turned into a resto mod so to speak. That truck will be a street queen.

So yeah like I've said before stay tuned as hopefully this will start getting interesting again.

Yay for a non-provoked update!!!
Yeah man. I got so sidetracked the last year or so it wasn't even funny. So hoping to really stay committed to this thread here in the future. Plus since I haven't been cleared to wheel yet since my injury I figured it's the perfect time to get back on track with the build and this thread.

how's the recovery going?

and I know the situation when you have a hacked up bent frame and want to do more. I started over with a fresh frame and I'm close to be back on the trail with it.

Awesome... Yah its nice starting over and doing things right. I'm in a rush/time crunch but not enough of a time crush to hack things.

Going good I feel like I'm pretty much 100% I'm just waiting on the doc. He says he will release me from light duty around September.

Yeah Ive had the first truck a long time and have made so many changes to it that it just got to banged up to work with. I got too used to rushing it back together for the next event or trip and it only got worse everytime
