this build is AMAZING!!!!!, it has given so many ideas. i need to get my k5 built so i can go wheeling. keep up all the good work

RE-Build Thread: 1989 K5 Trazer "The Dirty Girl"

If all goes according to plan, we will be wheeling at The Cliffs offroad park this saturday. They have a tire size limit of 40". So last year I bought a set of 38.5" boggers from jekquist and got a set of hummer wheels. I will be using 2" wheel spacers I bought from Readymix on here. Engine is still running a little rough. Hoping it will smooth out a little once I drive it some more. Fingers crossed, we will see how it does at a park design for Jeeps

Tire size limit? Like maximum of 40"? I would only assume that is to reduce the damage to the trails

Well, it was a pretty successful trip to the Cliffs Insane Terrain Off-Road Park. The full hydro steer worked awesome! Without the front taper we would not have made it through some of the areas without some serious body damage. First I will post some pics that Josh Zuelke took. Here's where I buried the truck pretty good. Once I got pulled out of here, the whole front axle was encased with mud lol.

This was when we were going through a trail in the park that was cut by The Mud Turtles offroad club. It was super tight and I was rubbing the drivers side for most of the way and a few times I leaned it into a tree on the passenger side. The fenders got a little banged up and the sheetmetal sections on the tube doors took a few hits. But I gotta say I was very happy with how the DIY4X tube doors held up. I had the whole truck leaned into a tree on the passenger side door and the door still opens and closes just fine.
At one point I even had to get speed in order to drag the driver side through a tight section. I did my best to make the trail wider for future fullsize rigs
I have to play with the rear shock mounting. I think I was extending them all the way.

Here's some pictures of the aftermath:
We were plagued by a bad running engine the entire day. It wouldn't idle on its own and was running super rich. This made it difficult to drive over obstacles because you had to constantly hold the throttle open a little or else it would die out. We took it back to camp at lunch time and when we took the air cleaner housing off and started it up, we saw the fuel was dumping all over the injectors instead of the nozzles.
We found that the o-ring on 1 injector was a little ripped and the gasket that goes on the top part of the TBI housing had a rip in it as well. We did our best to fix what we could. We were able to get everything tightened down to where 1 of the injectors was operating properly but the other was still spilling fuel out the bad gasket area. At least now it would idle on its own and was much easier to drive. I will have to replace the gasket and O-ring before the next trip

I need to narrow mine. Does it get old with it throwing mud and such all over your windshield?

I didn't use the windshield wipers once. With the H1s and 2" wheel spacers on there now, the track width was narrowed by about 5 inches so I think that helped some. Things might be a little different the next time I have my 42s on there though...
I screwed up the aspect ratio on the upload, but you get the idea. I took very little video but here's all the clips I took put into 1 little video. The last clip shows how we got my friends Jeep back to the campground after he snapped a rear axle shaft. My friends TJ in the beginning of the video is actually just a Jeep body put onto a Toyota chassis, running all toyota drivetrain and Propane powered.

This thing is still around. Ordered a TBI rebuild kit the other day. Got a week of vacation coming up, one of those days will be spent giving this a little attention. Gotta make sure this is ready to play in the sand with a bunch of hillbillies come July
Not much of an update, but I think I got the TBI runnin better. A teacher at the school I work at retired in June. I towed the truck to school and after the last day of school, we ran over his desk!

And I did. Took about 7 months from the time I started parting it out. Sold the trans, t-cases, tires and wheels, rear shocks, tbi wiring, winch, doors, axle truss, and anti wrap bar. Kept the engine for myself, we may use it in a 1930 Ford Model A 5-window coupe that we are building for my dad. Then sold the remaining truck to @MTBLAZER89 All together the total came to almost $8,000. Which I feel is good considering I started listing the complete running/driving truck at $9500 over a year ago. Then I dropped the price and eventually stopped at $6,000 the weekend before I sold the doubler set up. The whole process sucked but it eventually worked out in the end.
