I probably don't have to tell you guys how impossible it is to find original K5 bucket seats...they don't exist. I have a nice set in mine...but they are blue...and I need them to be "saddle"...
I inquired today about vinyl paint...and was advised against it...I was told that it will rub off and stain anything and everything you wear...

So, the other option is to have them re-upholstered.

Does anyone have any experience with the seat upholstery kit you can get from LMC or JC Whitney or anywhere else online?

Vinyl paint on the door inserts works great. My first truck was silver.
Didn't want it silver, but it was the only one that had what I wanted.

After the silver paint disappeared like it always does, I repainted it green.
The door panels were blue, the paint guy repainted them brown with some kind of paint just for vinyl, and they lasted for at least 10 years.

But, I suspect that like dirtygoat says, it would not last on something that flexes. Of course, if it softened and bonded with the vinyl, it might work. But, I would try it on a small spot first.
Mine was a bench seat, I went with one of the better saddle blanket covers with the storage along the bottom of the front for a shotgun or rifle.

real vinyl dye CAN survive on seats... but that's true vinyl dye, sprayed with a gun, not paint from a rattlecan like Fusor, Colorcoat, etc... it comes in qrts, gals and is super thin, it's a dye afterall...

that being said.... what color your putting down, and what your covering matters.... tan over blue? ain't gonna happen.... but I've converted many vinyl seats to black, and they hold up very well...

can't testify to the upholstery kits quality..... I would call an auto upholstery shop locally and ask them what they can do for ya... they may just make their own, or recommend a manufacturer...

Maybe Teck can chime in on this one as he has the most experience.

I found the original factory fabric to do mine (thanks Teck!) and now I have been trying to find a place to do the work for a resonable price. Most upholstery places wont touch that molded foam as the fabric is glued right to it. It also depends on the quality you are looking for. If you just want them saddle and doesnt have to be factory perfect the seat kits may be just fine too.

classicparts.com has some good quality seat covers. Also you can spray your dash and door panels no problem but I would definately recover the seats.
