Real Daily Driver / Weekend Warrior - Engine Mount Questions

Back on track.

OK life has gotten a little in the way. I did find work again, and with it came a PAYCHECK! Got a Evap box for my birthday from a friend, and just started cleaning it up for installation.

Ready to be back on this project! I've stayed off the forums because it just depressed me what I wasn't getting done.

The struts arre not needed for the rig if it just a daily driver. The only problem I have seen is with large tires and high horsepower. The adapter between the tranny and tcase can break under stress without it.

They are not necessary.

Not true , and I have a pile of bad 700R4 and TH350 cases to back up that statement.

Get a different set of headers and or go manifolds the strut is needed.

Edit: make sure your t-case mounts are in good shape as well

I have a large pile of bad TH350's and TH700R4's as well, and it is because they burnt up, not because the struts rods were missing.

guess you have never seen a cracked case . which would mean your not quite the expert you think you are. the strut rod is there to prevent case flex from the extra weight and leverage of the t-case hanging of the back. without it the case will crack at the top about 6" forward of the tailshaft mounting flange. its super common especially when non K cases are used

Are you talking about street driven only rigs or are you talking about the wheeling kind of rigs? I agree with you on why they break, but don't hang out with a the daily driver kind of guys that much. Whenever I have seen them break, the rig is under serious motivation. And the break is in the tail shaft of the tranny not the adapter itself.

Both , street rigs and wheeling rigs. more common on the iron t-cased rigs. One good pothole or speedbump is enough to do it. GM put that brace because it was needed all the time , not just for "offroading".

Copy. Good to know. I always run them anyways, but was under a totally different opinion.

He was talking about the rods that go from the motor mounts to the torque converter cover. Not the one going from the bellhousing to the t case.

Yeah, I think YellowK20 is thinking about the rod from the transfer case to the bellhousing.

Those are important too, the keep the case rigid. It drives me nuts to see a truck with out the Inspection cover If they half ass that what else do they cut corners on.

You can believe me our not, but IMHO the bracing is important and should be used.

Well there is enough discussion and conviction that I will definitely change headers and run the supports. How about Thorleys? Any other header suggestion. Serviceability and function are #1 to me. I always liked the clearance a Thorley tri-y offered. The last set I had was chrome and the finish sucked. Since its going to be a driver I need longevity!

HVAC back in!

Finally forward movement again. Got the HVAC case reassembled with a new condenser and installed in the truck. What a cheap pile of fiberglass GM used, amazing these things ever stayed together!
