REAR DISK CONVERSION....

appreciate the correspondence. is the stock hydraulic steer pump enough to add the hydro boost brakes?
or best to upgrade it?

The stock pump is fine. Unless you have hydraulic assist ram on the axle as well. Then you need to upgrade.
My instructions said to make the return line from the hydro-boost a straight shot back to the reservoir, and T the return from the steering box in the side.
I only have 35" tires and no front locker. Mine is more street truck.
If this doesn't make sense, I will try to grab a picture.
And you are welcome!
:waytogo:

i'll post the results of what i decide. either a wilwood vac booster or the hydro assist, as recommended by motor city K5

I upgraded to hydroboost a few years ago. Pretty much stock everything and no issues. I did get the pump with 2 return lines so that I don't have to T the returns together, but there isn't a difference in cost.

What's the pump from Josh? I'm gathering parts for the upgrade.

Well, I've since LS swapped it, but I believe it was an early 80's 3500. I'm certain it's in my build thread. Anything that came stock with hydroboost will have it though. All of those pumps will fit our brackets.

@ashman , what did you do to mount it to the firewall and then hook to the pedal?
I ask because I thought that there was a difference in the mounting plate, and that the pushrod was too short. It has been years since I have looked into the details of swapping one from an '85 into my '70.

I just looked back through my thread and most of my pics are missing. :(
You are right, in that the square body mounting plate wouldn't work, unmodified. The squarebody firewall has a lip just above where it mounts, and the plate has a bend in it to match. I had to modify one to fit, but I don't remember the details off the top of my head. I'll have to go take a look later.

As far as the pushrod goes, I modified that as well. I welded some all thread on the end of it and threaded a clevis yoke end on it so that it was adjustable. I used my original brake pedal and just drilled the right size hole for it.

I know I have the pics around here somewhere. When I get some more time I'll try and upload them here.

i'm debating getting a new saginaw power steering pump. i'll look for one with 2 return lines.
well, looks like im committed: hydro boost here we go....
