Rear shocks behind the axle?

Well, it looks like it must be time to try to contact the PO. Just out of curiosity, I'll go take a measurement from the rear door seam to the front of the fenderwell. I know it's had some extensive mods, but i think the frame is all one piece, as I said from a 73 3/4 ton sub. The body as far as I know is pretty much all an 86. I'll put out some feelers and see if I can contact him and find out what was done there. He did most things right, so I'm sure there was some reason to what was done.

I’m not opposed to 64” springs, should ride like a caddy, not to discredit him I think we’re all just more curious than anything

Just a visual for comparison, this is a pic of mine when I experimented with moving the axle back a lot. This is 5.5" back, 56" springs backwards plus a Zero Rate set at 1.5", I thought it looked really awkward. To me @anwat Blazer doesn't look like it's offset this much but I don't understand how it's not.

It's not that bad...It does look a bit to the rear, but not as far as the blue one. When I get home, I'll get the axle to axle measurement, also. The body looks like it's all there. What's the k5 wheelbase supposed to be?

the wheelbase is 110", so I don't know why it doesn't look odd. I can see it the rear axle sits a bit too far back for the wheel well, but you really have to look to see it. Just so you know, it doesn't ride like a cadillac, either. Maybe because I don't have any rear shocks. But it's pretty stiff, maybe the weight contributes, not a bad ride, but pretty much like you would expect from a 30 year old truck.

The somewhat harsh ride is likely from the way the rear springs and shackle sit. With the shackle locked horizontal it’s cannot move any further to function as it should.

Yea you have no shackle movement, basically when the spring compresses on bumps the spring moves up and the shackle moves back, in your case the shackle can’t move and I’m sure no shocks isn’t helping because you have no dampening of the spring movement.

I say try the 6" shackles B4 you you start redesigning the rear suspension

Here is what mine looks like. 4" (roughly) lift on 37's along with ORD 52' custom springs and hangers with greaseable bushings and an unknown brand shackle flip.

Your shackle, to my eyes doesn't like you can switch sides to accommodate longer springs.

That's the 4" Superlift shackle flip. I have the same.

And just think, that's bare metal.
But it brings me back to the shackle as the first issue to fix. And it would seem the easiest fix is going to be to move the hanger to the rear about 2". In doing so, I wouldn't incur any significant driveline length or angle changes. Yes. I'd have to drop the tank and take off the rear bumper, but relatively minor compared to any other fix. Would everyone agree with that assessment? Then, once that's done, mount the shocks?
And here's a direct side shot as it sits now...not great, it was dark by the time I got home, but you can see the tires in relation to the fenders. 110" wb, so I agree that tire should look further back, but that's what I have.

You haven't run into any issues with the exhaust heating up your fuel, have you? I hate running the exhaust right along the fuel tank like that, but there's no other place to put it, and I don't want to turn it to the side, it's loud already. Turning it down in front of the axle wouldn't give me room for the second muffler and presents a fire hazard. I thought of wrapping it, but in the end, all the heat is still there.

No...plus i have the heavy duty gas tank skid guard, just a barrier between the pipes and tank, or a place to hold heat from the pipes? Hahahahaha

There is so much wind back there. But i don't see any other place to run it.

Prior to where it is now, I had it exit before the rear axle but that sucked. It was loud and fumes would get in the cab, or so it seemed.

I can't think of a way for a suburban r frame to fit a blazer, wo it being modified. So the spring hangers and body perches shouldn't be compared to a burb,
I'd like to see a Blazer rear spring front perch, and rear bumper brackets.
Also thinking this morning what is the ideal distance from the center of hanger bolt to spring eye?
