Any reason that I shouldn't turn the 56's around backwards? Gonna be trimming the wheel wells anyway...

Yours must be the 2" offset center pin.
Ran a set of offset 52s like that for years.

If you're good with relocating everything else

stock gm 52 is centered.

stock gm 56 is off set length plus 4" extra on the back side.

76zimmer did on his blazer I know .

I run a set backwards for different reason my self . super short k30 wheel base and wanted least amount of over hang behind truck .

Yes I did run the 56's that way
Stretched the wheelbase a bit and if your trimming the wheel openings anyway.....Might as well!

I was unaware that there was 56 inch chevy springs that didn't have an offset pin...

As for relocating things, not that big of a deal. I already need a new driveshaft, and I need to figure out 14 inch shocks anyway, my rear flexible brake line is extra long.

The main reason for wanting to do this is that I want to try and mount the suburban fuel tank forward of the rear axle above the driveshaft. I have no idea how I am going to deal with the crossmembers yet. I need to take some measurements before I get too involved. Might as well is whooping my ass.

cutting the floor out for the tank? I've looked at putting the tank there and it didn't look like it was possible unless the floor was cut.

Only way that I would do it is if I could leave the cab alone. Cutting up the bed doesn't really concern me. For a while I was thinking that I should just mount a big rig saddle tank in the bed but I am worried about COG and fuel slosh possibly causing a roll over.

What drive train (trans/t-case) are you running? CV rear axle? I don't think you could put it anywhere near the cab, I was referring to the bed floor.

Also thought about just mounting it aft of the rear axle but the short box means the tank would stick out farther than anything else.
