Did it sit outside where it got water in it? I’ve never seen pushrods rusted like that unless moisture got in….and that oil is :yikes:
I had that happen to a rebuilt engine sitting in my shed for 5 years under a plastic cover as well.
Moisture in the air for long enough.
I had no intake on

Oil can get like that if the engine is ran multiple times for short distances and never warmed up to operating temp. Assuming its not from as leaky head gasket or frozen cracked block, any chance it was frozen with water in it? Hopefully not.

Being 4 quarts over full is definitely not something to overlook, needs to be investigated.

The oil and moisture were definitely mixed up, not just from sitting, but could be from your pumping?

The compression numbers aren't very good from 110 - 140, but were they dry? Was the throttle open or intake off during the test?

I spun it a little before before I pumped that out.

Intake was off. I did put a small amount of ATF in the cylinders the night before, but that only sits on the low side of the piston, so I consider it dry.

Off topic, do you just book your own hotel in the city you’ll be staying in each night for HRPT? Or is there like a “preferred” hotel where participants stay? When I click the link on the page for hotels nothing happens

On your own. I always book about 10 miles towards the next days city. Have stayed in some real dumps, 4 star and a couple of historic hotels. Had one cancel on me last year as they sold and the new chain would n9t honor the reservation. I called BS. They found out that 5000 rooms were being booked and canceled all of the non prepaid reservations. Ended up in a motel 6 across from Summit racing. We were not allowed to hang out outside of our rooms in the evening. The gun fire and zombies were prevalent that night.

I have 40psi going in. Holds the valve, but I can hear air in the valley.
Yes, I've done it on several engines (which ran fine after the fact!) and they all made the compressor cycle eventually. Even if the cylinder wall is pristine, you have a gap in the piston ring. The combustion event is large and very short duration. Plus, as the engine gets to temp, tolerances decrease.

This is what we have come up with also. Engine is not in normal operating procedures. The time that it would blow by is a semifraction of a second. And it is cold and dry.
I am going to continue looking through it. Crank and rod bearings are next.

That sucked.

Drained the oll this morning in preparation to turn it over and pull the pan. First liquid to run out was a pretty green color.:yikes:

Something is toast.

When you take the oil pan off and look at the cast iron just above the rail for any cracks or signs. Hopefully just a head gasket but not a good sign. Any chance is drained there from the intake removal?

There has not been coolant in the block in a couple of years. I drained the lower plugs and put air to it before I put it way. Nothing in the intake to drain into the valley, it was dry when the intake was pulled.

So whatever happened was before you stored it, interesting....I think I would be pulling the heads to investigate the deck surfaces and bores if you don't find the problem when you pull the oil pan.

Late to the party, but I hope the air leakage is normal because that's what mine does too. I was running about 50psi in the cylinders.

I have taken a crap load of pictures as I took it apart. This is the most important picture so far.

Metallic in nature. Will not come out.

Is that from a busted ring? Or is that the piston itself?

It almost looks like something was dropped in there and smashed to bits? Is that stuff magnetic? It appears to be harder than the piston is....

Any signs of head gasket leaks?

Any bore damage found when you rotate the crank?

No head gasket Issues. I saw that as I was cleaning it and had to stop. Frustration gets the best of my brain, so I have to walk away for a bit.
