After a couple of hours last night and 2 hours this morning, diagnosing why the new cruise contol unit will not work and will not go into self diagnostic mode, I have determined the set/coast button is not working. No output per the manufactures diagnostics proceedure. Of course, the first thing that I assumed was that I screwed up the installation, so I went back through everything.
I have done everything I can to make the cruise work. Bypassed the the Set/coas switch with a momentary switch in the dash. That is working sending power now. Still no diagnostic settings in the unit.
On to other prep stuff.
And the fuel gauge seems to be reversed. I get more fuel as I drive. I wish it worked that way.
Finally ran it out of gas. 200 feet from my house.
Poured the 5 gallons in that I had with me. Drove 1 mile to the gas station to fill it up.
Put in 14.6 gallons. 20 gallon tank. I may have to stop 3 times on the way to Memphis. Who puts a 20 gallon tank in a work truck. I guess GM does. That will have to change.
And the radio died. Says PROTECT when it comes on. The fix for this model, when it does that, is a sledge hammer. According to the internet.
Edit... Full tank is a little under 1/2 on the gauge. Out is a little over 3/4. This should be fun.
I have the GPS speedo/odometer in the crew cab. I keep a little notebook in the console and write down the mileage at fill up and use that to judge how far I can go.
Drivvo app on your phone. All you got to do is put in the odometer reading, fuel quantity and cost. Does all the rest. Even projects the next fill up mileage based on your habits. No notepad to loose of fumble looking for a pen.
Fuel gauge is broken on my Blazer. I know when to fill based on the odometer alone but it’s a good backup reminder.
I use an old phone for GPS speedo in the burb. The oem speedo is way and stopped working on the Colorado trip.
I filled the burb on that trip every 150 miles + - 50 miles. Up to that trip my best towing mpg was 8.6 and I have had as little has 5 mpg. 40 gl tank.
