Now for the next dilemma.

I just talked to the owner of Wicked Wrenched Motorsports. He specializes in Gen V LT and L86 swaps.

My biggest issue was the DOD crap and the 4x4 transmission. He has a solution for both of those. The biggest hassle will be the power steering pump. But I am sure I can make that happen.

About a quart of coolant. The rest was oil.???????

Lots of options for a p/s pump on them now in aftermarket .

I still think 454 swap for fast easy option.

LT cams are expensive. I had a 5.3 out of a '15 that lost a cam in a truck at work. I got a new engine and kept the old one. I think a cam for it with lifters was like $1200 so I bailed and sold it. I'm a cheap ass though.

Did you find something else on the L29 you aren't showing us?
Not yet. I haven't been working on it today. Finances may dictate the direction I go. Our daughter and her husband had their bank accounts, checking and the little bit of savings, cleaned out. They have Lifelock, but it will be at least 2 months, probably more, to get things corrected. In the mean time, their credit gets locked down. They can't even open a checking account. So we are paying their bills for now.

Stop using debit cards tied to your back accounts.

I never do.
That's the only reason I have credit cards.
It's a shield of some sort.

You know it's funny, lifelock is advertised as prevention against this situation, and yet it happened.
Yeah they help you recover but at the cost they charge and the claim they have I expect smooth operation.

Between Eileen and myself, we have been through 5 new credit cards in the last 6 months. Capital One contacts us about an out of our norm charge. New card to use 2 days later.

I had that happen one time, they took $1200 out of my checking with a cloned debit card about 10 years ago. I never used my debit card for daily transactions again. They replaced it within 3 days, but still, its not the same when they take it directly out of your account vs an account you pay back every month. Every few years it seems I need a new card, because someone copied it or something, new card in a couple days and no worries just like you said Wade.

It does take more responsibility with a CC, you shouldn't be charging more than you can pay back every month.

Every person I know that has used Lifelock has had a problem. I personally do not trust Lifelock. I sure hope Lifelock does right be your kids Wade.
Also everyone I know that uses the bank account ATM card in a gas pumps has had issues. I do have an ATM card. I never use in gas pump or hand to a waiter at restaurant. Up until I retired I used cash at the pumps, and restaurants. Still try to use cash at restaurants, esp tipping. Use a CC with % back on gas purchases since moving 30+ gal at a time with today's prices is a lot of cash.

Back to the engine.

Pulled the pistons. No damage to any of them that I can see. No cylinder slapping. Nothing broken. No slop in the wrist pins moving them by hand.

Pulled the rod caps. Bearings are a lot better than I thought they would be with 225k on it. A few have a slight score down the center. Very shallow.PXL_20240116_193806513.jpgPXL_20240116_193814721.jpg

The remainder are normal wear.

The journals look really good. The gauges in the bearings do not show anything on the crank.PXL_20240116_201125371.jpgPXL_20240116_201136299.jpgPXL_20240116_201133060.jpgPXL_20240116_201130457.jpgPXL_20240116_201128525.jpg

So I measured them. And yes, I wrote 1 down because I wrote the decimal numbers as I measured them, because they were the important ones. Then read 1 for cylinder one, and wrote that down on all of them. My dyslexia has gotten worse.

After this, I thought, no way. I checked my micrometer to it's gauge before. So I ran them again. Same thing. Then I looked up how to read a micrometer, because I must have been reading something wrong. And with my memory issues, I would not doubt it. So just for kicks, I used my veneer calipers. I checke them to the gauge and they are 0.0015 low. Read the same thing on the journals. So A polish and new rod bearings are doable.

More to come.

Edit: they are supposed to be 2.2000"

Still no info on the coolant.

Did you mark all the caps so you can put them back in the same spot? Or maybe they were already marked?

That rear main bearing looks to have some sort of corrosion spot, but the crank looks fine. A polish might be enough.

A crank polish, a ball cylinder hone in a drill, and some new rings and bearings and she might be good as new. Do you have a reputable shop near by to polish the and measure the crank?
