This worked great. Until it didn't. The vise grips were not enough to pull it up hill. The forklift head light blew out when I pulled the switch, so I did not see it fail, until it did. Blocked the tires are closed the shop. 34* outside.View attachment 468074View attachment 468075

Planned to use it with the bumper on the frame. Pulled it to make access easier.
When I pulled the engine out of my van, I had to remove the intake and use my engine hoist literally in the valley hugging the engine.
It's definitely tight.
Did it a few times actually and hated every time.
You seem to have more space above than my van

I did more than a few 80's G vans when I was at LAFD. We had in ground front and rear twin post lift. Pull trans, dist, carb, everything off the front except balancer. A custom built heavy ass cart, with big truck floor trans jack bolted to cart the had a fixture to bolt to the back of the engine. Pull the motor mount bolts tilt the engine up in the front with jack, lower a bit move cart, lower adjust tilt, move cart. after doing 1 or 2 I could do and r/r in a 9 hour shift. many times have the cam break in done depending other work done at same time.
I realize that's a lot of customs tools, and not many home shops have a lift. This just an example that some repairs on G van are easier from underneath

I looked a little while ago. The engine is too wide to come out of the top. Drivers side does not have enough clearance to lift out of the engine mount. Should be fun.

I was talking the newer express, 96 and up van.
2 hours and the engine was pulled. Engine swap done in one day and running

Worst case you pull the heads to make the short block manageable to pull with the engine hoist. We had to do some class A rv’s that way. You are only 32 head bolts and a double hernia away from getting it done. :haha:

But on the straight axle units it was easiest to pull the axle out from under it and drop the engine out the bottom.

The LT being a lot smaller shouldn’t be as difficult to stuff back in it.
