Could you add a piece in the middle to center these ones to each other? Or would that take machine work to do?
It would depend on the ID, correct? Maybe the ID of those will allow it?

I stick one of the pipes through the center, part way into the other half to make the alignment flange when I set them up prior to welding.

thin skim of copper RTV maybe ?

but if i had to guess its more the non index and possible spinning of the pipe to manifold / header and braking the seal .

I dislike working on my knees.

So.......

Finished pulling the harness and hoses. Except the oil cooler lines. I want to see how they fit as I install the engine for the first time.

We have separation. If I was not converting to 2WD, I would have left it together. I did not want to be under it pulling the transfer case adapter.

2WD mode engaged. 15 minute swap.

I think I am going to put the seating back in this. Cover it with its cover then a new tarp and bring Fugly inside to work. The boat will be under the lean-to. So it should be OK for a bit. If Juniors Corvette wasn't here, it would go back into that garage. I need more covered space.

It went in. 1/8" at a time. Looks to clear the cross member and tie rod. Interferes with the floor on the driver's side like I expected.

I was eyeballing the location. Came back out and I am going to put the mounts on.

Ran out of blue locktite. Figures.

Passenger side engine mount on the cross member had to come out.

More to come.

Stupid questions inbound…

You pulled a big block out of that space and putting a LT small block back in, I’m struggling to see why the smaller engine doesn’t fall in with room to spare? Is the LT mounted where the bellhousing flange is in the stock location or is it pushed further back?

By no means am I second guessing what you are saying, just can’t picture why a smaller engine would have any clearance issues when you pulled a big block out of it. Is it on that driver side head with the extra DI crap on and around it?

What may be throwing me is the amount of room I remember the Workhorse step vans with 6.0’s had. That and the latest Cleetus video where they yank a 6.5 oil burner out of an old Workhorse/fedex truck and stuff a 632 big block from Blueprint engines for Summit. They were going to have to do some work by the driver side floor area to clear the tall valve cover.

The BBC cleared stock low profile valve covers by 1/4" to the floor.
It’s kind of a misnomer. The outward edges of those LT motors are a lot bigger than people think.
Yep. Valve covers are much taller and the coil packs, dip stick and oil fill are right there. I am not sure what is under these bumps in the valve cover. If nothing, I could move the coil packs and do a different valve cover. Still a lot to look at going further.

I’ve had my hands on my fair share of them, it was just crazy to think the height/width was more than a big block.

I may be off on my memory, but I thought the goofy bumps helped with the sound of the high pressure injectors. Though I doubt the effectiveness because it was a common complaint when the DI 5.3 and 6.2’s hit the street in 2014.

Those injectors are loud. Old timers thought they had an exhaust leak or valvetrain problems. I don’t know how many I walked out the the new lot or our shop truck (new for ‘14) and fired up a like truck to show the sound was the same and ultimately normal.

Funny thing was they usually heard the noise if they were in a drive thru with the window down or standing next to it idling.

Back to the sawzall action on the floor…
