Reverse light bulbs – 50 watt

If i can find a cheap stock bumper, maybe i'll get a holesaw set and start punching holes.....
and if you still mess up, I've got a perfect rear bumper from my 85 blazer. Well except it's got a trailer plug hole in it. :doah:

for those that want to just replace the stock bulbs with 50 watts like I did - there is no need to pay anymore that $8-9 for a pair. I just got them at O'Reileys - Eiko 1156 - 50 watt

Is that the exact part number? On their site it seems to just pull up a standard 1156 bulb and nowhere in the specs is a mention of wattage.

No ****, now they say they have them. We shall see.

They had a set so I picked them up. Didn't show on their website but whatever.

yep..that's the bulb.. has the little tear drop on the end. Easy and cheap.. I don't why anyone would want to fuss with adding a whole new set of lights back there. Those bulbs will make plenty of light as seen in the pics.... plus it all still looks stock.

I was surprised how much brighter it was.

Although one of my old bulbs wasn't even a 1156. Same base but the bulb was about half the size.

the bulbs I got are just like the one in your hand - the bulbs are near as big around as the old ones .... but I think they are a tad bit longer.

Sorry, I was unclear, one of the old bulbs in there wasn't a 1156.

got it. Everyone should do this.... your pics really show the difference too.

I figured they'd be useful.

My Tracker DD also needed some help so I got some Sylvania Silver Star 921's for it at the same time. Silly almost how much more light you can get for less than $10.

Finally I mounted a pair of those 150,000 candlepower 7 inch JC Whitney driving lights on the back.
Ran it to a switch on the dash.
It was great for turning around in the woods at night.

And, because I was young and stupid, I found it very useful for those guys who would run up behind me and put their high beams on because I was driving too slow for them in town.

They only did it once.

man, i would like to do this just for all the people with the super bright aftermarket headlights that are out today. maybe i'm just getting old, but some of them are just too damn bright in my opinion.

ok, rant over, i will be checkin out these bulbs also. i live out in the sticks and reverse into my driveway every night, so these look like they'd be nice

Just an FYI - you are not supposed to handle those halogen bulbs with your bare hands. The oils from your skin will cause hot spots on the glass and cause them to explode. I'm sure it's not as big an issue as with headlights which are on much longer.

Now your hands look ridiculously dry, so you may have gotten lucky, but normally that is a big issue to avoid.

Those are my leather work gloves. Also wiped the bulbs down with a paper towel after installing them.

My bad, they looked like you had been working on the truck all day or something! At least that is how my hands would look sometimes... :D

Mine get that way too. Those are just my do-it-all leather work gloves I had in my pockets when I installed the lights.
