Revival of the "classic hauler"

hey campfire is there anyway i can directly tag you or anyone else in my post i see you are from around da u.p. the guy i bought my dually from is from around there himself

You can send a private message (PM) directly to me, but I'm not aware of any way to tag someone in a post. :dunno: Lemme know if you find a way to do so, though. I'd use that function if it was available. I'm guessing the answer is no, but I posted your question up to the mods.

Yeah, I live on the WI/MI border. You ever get out this way?

wiring help?

Hey guys just wondering if someone could tell me where the wire on the left half of the small junction block is supposed to go there is enough wire and from the bends in it it looks like it would run to my battery and it is a heavy gauge primary wire but it already has power at it so I'm a little confused any help appreciated thanks guys:dunno:

The black block is a junction for 12v. If I remember correctly, the 12 volt source comes from the starter and goes to the left side of that block.

A number of things, back of the alternator, the big wire connector at the firewall I believe. Anything that needs a constant 12v source. Most of the wires coming off of it should have a fusable link in them also.

hey guys not much to report today got my dash put back together and a few wires buttoned up but just thought id throw in a pic with the sunpro mini tach that im assuming the previous owner put in i thought it was pretty cool

I'm pretty sure that Junction block has a wire that goes down to the starter, one to the alternator, and one to the fuse block.

correct... the feed is from the starter, and that's the wire that has the fusable link... it goes to the left post...

Ok there is no fuseable link in my wire and I guess I'm still working on figuring out where it is supposed to go? I don't know if it has anything to do with it but I relized my wipers are not working so gotta do some more digging

if that feed is bad, pretty much nothing in the truck will work, it's the main feed for the fuse panel..

the fusable link is in that 10 gauge wire as it comes off the starter.. it's usually about 6" to a foot above the starter... not up high on the firewall... it'll usually look like a clothy shrinktube section on the wire... conceivable it was eliminated at some point too...

I'd be taking a testlight to the fusebox for the wipers.. if it's JUST the wipers with a power issue, odd's are it's the fuse in some way...

so then I must be wrong in thinking that it shouldn't be going to somewhere that already has battery voltage, because it is hot already? :dunno:

right.. that junction block is effectively your battery.. it's where your alt ties back into the DC system to charge, it's what feeds the whole cab, etc...

all coming from that wire off the starter..

ok well im gonna do some work on it tomorrow and try to sort that and whatever else I might find, this damn thing has just got me stumped I have power to my fuse block I was checking fuses and everything looked good so I guess idk?
