Richard's Funky Fire Truck

Martin, there are like no chevy truck parts near me. It'd random chance to find some.

Most all rims have the safety bead.

The whole size rims (15, 16, 17, ect) have the safety bead, many of the 1/2 size rims (16.5, 19.5, 22.5 ect) did not have a safety bead.

I have a set of 16.5x 8.25 non bead lock H1 wheels that do have a safety bead. Not sure if I want to sell them yet.

I've been told gm 16.5 rims have a safety bead.

I got a set of 16.5s on my truck right now... two have the safety bead two do not. And the set came off the same truck? Mabe cause it was a two wheel drive truck?
With Martins pics it is easy to tell if they have them or not.
Wouldn't even have looked if he didn't bring it up before.

99% of 16.5" wheels do not have a safety bead. I have only ever seen GM 16.5x6.75" steel wheel with them.

I'd be interested to see pics of a set of 8.25" wide 16.5 wheels with them.

The reason people always bitch about 16.5" tires is because the wheels don't have a safety bead.

I will try to take some pictures after work today of the 8.25 wide wheels with the safety bead. The only bad thing about these wheels is they have the H1 offset, will need a spacer to run on a srw truck.

It's all in an attempt to get him some wheels, more of a veer than a high jack.

Got it.

Richard, just to make sure I'm clear, you drove that thing some 4+ hours home with a 6.2,th400, and 4.56s? What was you top speed? I don't like the way my 78 sounds at 55! Much less anything above that, and it only has 4.10s.

Total drive time from PA was 10 hours. 55 is the absolute top speed. I was mostly on backroads averaging 45 mph. The drive was approximately 350 miles.

Here are the pictures of the 16.5x8.25 safety bead wheels. They are/were for a Hummer H1 and had 37/12.50-16.5 Good Year GSA tires.

I should check if my hub caps fit.

Wow that's rough, no wonder you want 37s

Weird. Did they use those much? What kind of tires is that?

Martin

I don't know how many of those wheels were made, defiantly not as popular as the Hummer H1 bead lock wheels.

The tire is pictured above, Good Gear GSA, it has a tight tread pattern on the outside and a more open tread pattern in the center and inside. I would call it an all terrain. I plan to put them on my '87 and plow snow with them (run them year round really).

I agree. I don't even like the 6.2/th400/3.08/31" combination that M1009s run. 4.56 gears would be spinning the life out of that poor engine... :doah:

I'm assuming you're running similar-size tires, based on the pictures.
