Richard's Funky Fire Truck

View attachment 230752 I bought a fire truck. It's an m1028 with 53,700 miles.

I bought the truck through a government auction. It was down in PA so it took the help of a couple local ck5 guys to make it happen.

I went down last weekend with the hopes of picking up the truck but the bastard who represents the sale for the forest service didn't show up.

When I got home I discovered they mailed the title, so I got some plates at the registry and booked a 12 hour bus ride to Reading, Pa.

Josh picked me up at the bus stop and we went back for the truck.

After leaving the property we stopped at a local gas station to wire up some tail lights, mount a spare, and I was off for New Jersey.

I've still got about 240 miles to go, but so far so good.

The Plans:

I bought this truck to go with some land up I'm Maine I recently purchased. I'm hoping to build a cabin and shop up there through next spring and summer. I don't actually know how to build a house or garage, so that should be interesting. I may make a separate thread for that or include it here.

At least 37 inch tires to get the rpms down

4 inch lift (I think)
- shackle flip from DIY is in the mail
-front springs tbd, but they will be off the shelf

1 inch body
-also in the mail from DIY

Flatbed

Snowplow

Rich just left the house after the mandatory burnout in the driveway (you hear me, Deuling? :flipoff: ) and he has started the truck to Boston. I'll leave the details to him, but I think this truck is in great shape for a rust belt vehicle.

Updated the first post. I'm sitting in valvoline getting my first mods done; windshield wipers and an oil change. The truck actually has a sticker from its last oil change and wasn't due for one until 54,700 miles.

I thought I got a great deal till some chucklehead got one for like $600

I had to make a pit stop.

It's too dark to get the truck and sign in the same shot with the auto light metering.

A few pics from today. Nothing too fancy. Just proof I drove this thing home.

I'd like to hear some front leaf spring opinions. Are Tuff Country HDs up to the task of light driveway snowplowing and the 6.2. I'll also probably mount a winch and never hook it up at some point so thats also important to factor into the weight of things.

Like I said before. I plan on running 37s. I want to keep the sway bar with ord disconnects/corrects that will be connected. T do not want to cut. This will not be a wheeler, so I doubt I will rub much. I know Swetty doesn't rub much with his Rough Countries.

Maybe it would be worthwhile to run some cheaper stiffer front springs to better fit 37s?
