Richard's Funky Fire Truck

**** Off

I took a mental health day from the truck today.

Nope, just got a little frustrated yesterday. Most of my lack of build progress is highly documented off ck5 in bleary beery messaging.

Alright, I'm super behind on this thread. My tapatalk was down for a bit which made uploading pics from the phone an impossibility. That combined with laziness and other excuses has kept me from updating. But, the major projects are finished up, and she's on the road again.

After consuming of these subpar beers with the mountains quite defrosted...

I installed my springs with the wrong bushings... Cut down my drag links for some more steering.

Got it on the road...

Stuck two Suzuki samurais on the back...

And headed for pizza

Then, I got a killer deal on some h1s which went on a ck5 relay race.

And turned my garage into a tire farm

Then stuffed some of these guys which is way easier than people say and I'm a lightweight. They also have lots and lots of bbs inside.

And bolted them on Fire Truck

Which apparently has two different front fenders...

Then, I drove to Maine via Mt. Washington. I should have brought my skis for some last turns but oh well.

I found a spot to dump a Samurai in the woods.

I got it most of the way off and then standing behind got precarious so I just kinda drove out from under with it strapped to a tree. Unfortunately my buddy is not the best videographer, but I may have some footage later.

Something is wrong with the Blazer. I think I made a post awhile back. It smokes lots and lots and has no power. I had to park it on my property in Maine for the winter to keep the Fire Truck at home.

I can't tear it apart to figure it out or fix it, because I need it to be mobile. I took the batteries home, and stuck them back in about a month ago now (when those pics were taken) and he still fires right up. I drove it around for about an hour in the woods, but it doesn't have the power to go much over 30 mph.

Maybe the air cleaner is full of mice nests and hulled nut shells...:dunno:..
Diesels need lots of air even at idle !..

Last I checked it is a clean air filter. The problem started at the end of last fall when I was still driving the truck a lot. It actually happened when I was driving North to put the truck in Maine. I was on the highway and then their was just a major loss of power and I could see billows of smoke behind me. It wouldn't go over 30 and I had to call AAA to tow it the last 100 miles. The truck idles fine, but any throttle and she just goes Blehhhhh and coughs up lots of smoke.

I have a 6.5 turbo setup sitting around, but if anything got a turbo engine, it'd be Fire Truck.

Bad lift pump maybe--or the sock in the fuel tank is clogging up with water or rust perhaps...or a rubber fuel line might be collapsing inside..might be pinholes in the steel fuel line somewhere too,my 6.2 pickup often wanted to die after I passed someone,or had to pull a steep hill until I ran a copper 3/8" tubing line all the way from the tank to the fuel filter on the firewall..

--after that it started much better, and faster, especially after it sat awhile, and hasn't bogged down like that again since,I can drive it 65 mph for miles with no problems....the steel lines were all flaky and had some wet spots on them--didn't "leak"or leave stains, but they were getting porous..air must have been getting sucked in during high load conditions..

It could be head gaskets too though,if its dense white smoke...if it doesn't lose coolant, maybe the CDR valve took a dump and is letting oil get drawn into the intake and burned..

The tank and pickup are brand new as well as the lines up on top of the engine. I can check the rest of the lines. It just feels worse than a leaky fuel line and I'm not sure that explains the smoke.

I'll really don't want to dive in too deep until the barn is up. I'd hate to break something playing with it and have to fix it in the woods or drag it around.
