I think they just know the hardcore cucv guys who restore everything will pay for it. Just speculation. I'm sure there also is a fare bit of copper in them.

Not just the CUCV guys, anybody with a few military 24v rigs wants them. Imagine having a couple deuces, some equipment, and a CUCV or two that don't get used a lot. Suddenly many hundreds of dollars for a slave cable doesn't seem so bad.
