Can you put a roll bar on a 1973 Blazer that didn't come from factory with one?

You can put a roll bar/cage on whatever you want.

Are you talking about the factory bar? it just attaches to the floor with bolts.

Nothing special about one that was ordered with one/to on that wasnt

Was the factory bar a 4-point roll bar, and where can you get one?

not sure if it was 4 point. I think there was just the plain loop bar, and then the one that had the back portion for the family

Im not sure if anyone makes a copy of it.. I browsed LMC with no luck.

Are you going for a period restore? or just want it in there?

Smittybuilt used to make one, other than that i usually see some on Craigslist

Yes, I want to restore it exactly as the 1973 Blazer in Jaws looks...paint color and all.

His has a 4 poin roll bar although not as big as some I have seen...I think I would like the bigger one...not just the loop....that a detail change I can live with.

And Factory wheels and hubcaps...

Wish I could freeze a photo of it....

there is someone on here with a mega clean stock blazer with i think a roll bar... im going insane trying to remember his name but hopefully he chimes in

You are thinking of DocJake...yes his is very clean. The out of state purchase isn't going to work for me though I tried.

I have seen that Jaws model before...it's a beauty isn't it? But the paint is much brighter yellow than the real thing...
What about the Roll bar...does that look stock to you...it's not just a loop it actually has 4 points.
And the wheels and hubcaps...where does one get stock wheels and hubcaps?

thanks! That is the same roll bar...looks like all the 74 models have it....maybe they installed one for the movie or it was a late 73 model.

Jaws was made in '75...

Stands to reason the K5 was a '74 or '75 model rather than a '73.

Wrong...it was made (filmed) in spring of 74 through August...the car was a 1973 model...the film was released in 1975 after editing and overdubbing and all the neat stuff you have to do to polish a film for release to the theaters.

FWIW, my '75 Jimmy has the original bar in it and it's nothing more than a two point hoop.

Very Nice! And those bars (hoops) are just "beauty" bars? They don't offer any protection in a rollover?

If you were restoring a Blazer would you install the hoop or would you get a roll bar welded to the frame?

Well, if you are planning a restoration and you want it close to original, I'd do the factory hoop. I would assume that if someone is taking the time to restore it, they are not planing on beating it up on trails. Therefore actual rollover protection wouldn't be as big a deal. But if you plan to take it out on the trail and really wheel it, you should go ahead and weld to the frame etc. I may be mistaken, but I was under the impression that the factory hoop was there to provide a small amount of support in the event of a roll.

Why would GM supply a 'not new' Blazer for a movie? The '74 was introduced in September 1973...Do you have any sources comfirming it's a '73 and not a '74?
