Rolled It 5 time's and Walked Away!!!!!!

I hate to see things like this happen, but I'm glad you are ok.

I was going to look into getting a "smaller" DD but I'm very weary about it, this is just another check on the do not do list

An old post but I couldn't resist responding. I'm surprised how many of us still believe old metal or big trucks are safer. Yes in some instances the weight and forward momentum works in our advantage however like was mentioned lifts (COG) and even weight often works against us. So do lack of air bags, and lower safety standards.

As a firefighter, former truck driver, and HazMat responder (ie trucks and trains wrecked) I've seen a TON of wrecks. And the only thing you can count on, is that you can't count on anything. It is absolutely amazing how people survive crazy wrecks and others die in what appear to be little more than a fender bender.

Had a plastic bedliner come off a pu in front of me on the highway at 75 got wrapped up in my driveshaft. The cop criticized me for not trying to avoid it. It didn't seem worth it to explain to her why I kept my 6000 lbs lifted Burb going straight. :doah:

Experience tells me, "when it's your time to go..."

On the topic of safe, How about one of them Smart Cars. You know the glove box you sit in with a 3 cylinder diesel engine. How did they ever clear them to be safe on the road. I passed one the other day and it is like the size of the bonet on the k5. That I wouldn't be caught sitting in. You imagine hitting something in one of them.

Well, Fireplug. Its nice you have your own opinion and that's all It Is. You say the only thing you can count on, is that you can't count on anything. Well, are you basing the safety of a piece of true Detroit Iron on WHAT??? I will bet my House you can go out and run just about car or truck Into my truck at 55mph and my KID In the front seat will walk away and I will tooo!! Today you should know It Is an Acceptable to louse a foot or arm In a crash today. If you just live throe a crash It Is acceptable!!! In a newer car or truck!!!! When I called my wife who Is a Med. surge. ICU RN. BSN she was at work. They deal will roll overs that end with death and dismemberment. No one could believe I lived let alone I walked a way and went to the ER on my own!!! I have had a Sub. or a K5 with a lift on It for 20 years!!!

Well, I just have to go and add my opinion as well now..

I have to say that this is, by far... and I do mean far, is the the dumbest comment I have read on this site as of yet. Congrats, man .. you won! :waytogo: You have NO IDEA WTF you are even talking about. I'd suggest you go ask your wife what happens when your kiddos, or your, intenal organs come to the complete and sudden stop that will most surely happen with that 55 mph crash. I work for the FD in a city of a million people, and I can tell you I deal with fatal car crashes more than I care to. Your comment sounds like it's coming from the mouth of some kid who has no clue what he's even talking about, much less has done any thinking about what he's said.

Dude, you should have used the ID "daCowboy" .. 10 feet tall and bullet proof, eh. Someone needs a reality check.

Just because I drive a big ol truck I can smash into anything and walk away .. :haha:

Reality check Isle 7 ..

i cant see the pics (gotta remember that paypal thing someday) but its good to hear you will still be on the road and trails. i also would like to say im a beliver in older HEAVIER cars and trucks. i was in my 79 lincon mark5 one day when a honda civic passed the car behind me and slammed into my driver door. it barely nudged the lincon but sent the civic off into the opposite bar ditch. i stopped and went back and the civic was creamed on the pass side. im sure it would have broke a passingers arm as much as it smashed. the civic was totaled and the guy got a broken collar bone. there wasnt any other damage to the civic it just slide off the road and stopped. my lincon on the other hand had a dent in the door that i pushed out with some paintless dent remover tools. the driver claimed he hit me hard but i hardly even felt it.
i also noticed with that car slush on the road wasnt a big deal it just plowed though it. but my 2000 grand am hits slush and goes all over the road.

Oh Yaaaa, That's DaCowboy :haha: :haha:

This is the WIFE of DaPlumber, and I am a registered nurse of 11 years, 6 years with an Army Combat Support Hospital, 5 years in a trauma ICU that has seen many, many people walk away from crashes that once you've seen the pics you can't believe how. I myself have taken care of at least 5 people in the last year who have hit trees or poles, and other than fractured femurs or ribs were A-OK. So before you get so high on Your horse cowboy, read what my husband wrote. He said vehicle verses his truck, and walking away from it. His truck has roughly 14 inches of lift.... most everything out there will end up under it. And I saw the crash site within a 1/2 hour of the crash, and the front seats were untouched.

Hello Ma'am, this is .. well, me. I'll do my own talking.

First of all, I myself have been a firefighter for 16 years. I don't hear about crashes, or see pictures of crashes.. I respond to them. I'm there to pull people out .. cut them out, carry them out of what's left of thier vehicle after a major accident.. or sadly, sometimes to wash what's left of them off the street so some kid doesn't wind up playing ball in a dried up blood puddle. I'm there, .. kneeling in the broken glass, the muddy ditch, or between the front and rear fenders of a car wrapped around a pole ... packaging them up. Rain or shine I'm out there , .. doing my job, while drunks and idoits whiz along .. inches behind me .. out on the freeways.

You said in the last year you have seen 5 people in the last year who have hit poles etc and pretty much walked away. I see more than 5 cars in poles/trees in any given month. I can tell you this, more die, than walk away. Maybe you've seen 5 walk.. I bet I've seen more walk. But, that's not the point.

The real point, is the absurd statement your husband made :

I will bet my House you can go out and run just about car or truck Into my truck at 55mph and my KID In the front seat will walk away and I will tooo!!

If you don't see the complete and utter stupidity in that statement, then I'm probably wasting my time. However, theres a little phenomenon that occurs when your brain is suddenly, and violently bounced off the back of your skull .. and then again off the front. It's a sudden decceleration injury .. and it kills or mames. I don't care how tall your husbands truck is... is a mute point. Put his truck up against a semi .. heck, put it up against even a small car .. it does not matter. Just as you say you have seen MANY people walk away from some really bad wrecks .. that you saw pictures of .. .I have seen many .. MANY poeple die in very low speed, low damage wrecks. I saw a car that rolled over at such a low speed, it was if a crowd of people had tipped it over ... yet it killed a teenage girl in the passenger seat... her injurey appeared to be a very small lac above her eyebrow. The point is ... wrecks are unique in ever aspect. No two are axactly the same. The thought of your husband thinking he is somehow "safer" in his freakishly lifted truck is hogwash. The fact that he thinks it, with your child in the seat is even scarry!!! He's no safer than anyone else out there. His dashboard tastes just as bad at 65 mph, as anyone elses. And when he comes out from behind your apron ... you can tell him that, for me. Would you?

Thanks, ... and thank you for the work you're doing down at trauma. :waytogo:

Wow, I guess I missed a little, since my last response. Very well put response. Nicely done brother. Jason.
