Round n round I go, where I stop, I dont even know

So the NAPA gas caps are better? Whatever one I bought from the parts store pops apart with a little force around the outer rim and is completely worthless.
The one that I bought at WalMart sucked and was sorta prone to binding up when it was brand new. I've never been able to complain about the ones I've bought at NAPA. Seem like way better quality.

Sometimes i swear Base Houseing kids are the devils spawn. Most all of them are pathetic wimps but they run around in groups acting hard as nails. Never do anything confrontational, but Egging homes, TPing homes, ****ing with vehicles are favorites of these retards. Oh and they "mean mug" the **** out of you when you drive by. Marine, Army, Navy, Airforce....All housing kids mean mug like you called thier mom a whore.

Sorry to hear about your bad luck.

I agree. I had some focksticks steal my assault pack out of my Sub one night. I could live without the bag, but my tech manual for the blackhawk was in there, some checks, a thumb drive, and some other aviation related study material. Neighbor lost stuff on the same night.

There was an old time cure for sugared gas. You drain out the gas into a tank of some kind, and pour in about a gallon or so of water.
Mix well. Sugar will not dissolve in gas, only in the moisture in the gas. So you can "wash out" the sugar and then just pour the gas off the top.
As far as that goes, you could taste a small amount of the water after to see if it tastes sweet.
Not sure what today's alcohol "enhanced" gas would do though.

OK, so you got one running. Did you drain the fuel filter to see what's in it? If and when you do this, be sure to empty the "INLET" side into the cup first...

yea...it can clog filters but that doesn't explain the not firing problem...just chased down a gremlin that sounds like your describing on the 1 you got back running...a 91 3/4 ton burb...it would do the low rpm thing & then pick up & skip around...turned out the throttle position sensor was on its way south...i could take it off and fiddle w/it & make it run right for 5-10 min then back to same thing..replaced it & cured it

Man that burns me up! Why do people have to vandalize like that? Cowards.

sometimes you can justify it as a kid tho....i have to admit in HS a guy was messing w/my gf and she didn't like it and she kept telling me what he was doing...black guy was grabbing her butt when she walked to front of the room & cornering her & being vulgar w/her....i knew sugar didn't work...b4 i got my car i drove my dads truck and he had to drain the tank b/c it stopped up the sock(a jealous ex-bf suguared the truck while i was at the movie show w/his ex)..my dad showed me in a jar even w/agitation sugar stayed solid(i remember that week he jumped my butt for wd-40'n the O2 torch regulator..very warranted but different story...he ran an old hose out the shop and put it in a qt of oil and shot the O2 to it and showed me why not to oil the torch...i have a cool dad)

anyway i wound up kicking his butt(1st person i ever TKO'd) b/c the vandalism that i thought would kill his car before he left the parking lot didn't do what i expected...i put a tube of bb's down his carb and mixed 2 big handfuls of sand in 1/2 quart of oil shook it up and put it in his oil....it ran for about 6 more months ...until after school 1 day, he was trying to pull start 1 of his friends and it died and wouldn't start, not sure what role what i did had in that, but i couldn't believe a tube of bb's didn't lock that ford ranger up...ever since I've never messed w/anyone's car...it seems to be hit n miss(altho supersize had some good vandalism tips here awhile back, never thought to cut fuel pump wires...that would render a car dead in its tracks)...but now i prefer to hit....literally...lol

You may need to enlighten us on this, what happens?

Fire and explosion. Working on an oil rig right now, and when we are on a well the welder isn't allowed to touch his tanks due to the risk. VERY nasty stuff.

I figured that, but wouldn't there need to be some form of ignition? Or do the gasses combust at the right ratio without an ignition source?

No I havent pulled the lines. I needed to change the starter since I fried the other one. So to make sure the truck would turn over, I gave it a crank and it fired up. Not too well, but at least it did.

I drove it around today and while it is running, its running like s***. It is back firing everytime I decel, it is smoking a little, and stumbles alot while driving. I still cant get the other one to run, but I havent drug it home to work on it either.

I hate this s***. I've never had both DD's out of commision at the same time. I have the third Burb that I'm robbing parts from, and a p/u with no tags or insurance.

May seem like a silly question but can't you just look down your TBI and see if the injectors have gas comming out of them?

Air,fuel, spark is all you need to make a motor run. I always start there when trying to figure out why something wont run. I'm sure you have air its either a spark (ignition) issue or fuel issue.

The only exception to the rule is 2-strokes which also require positve pressure under the piston in order to run.

02 and oil will self combust w/o an ignition source...it was a pretty big fire ball...all they need to do is meet each other, not build pressure

brake fluid & ammonia nitrate will do it also...i watched them start a huge bonfire in boyscouts...they soaked the wood w/diesel & then put a pile of ammonia nitrate in the middle w/a bowl of brake fluid on top w/a string attached..they pulled the string dumping the bowl and it went up...seemed like it started all by itself.but we're getting off topic...sorry

Actually that isnt a silly question as I use that very idea for tracking down problems. In the case of the 88, by the time I had it in a safe spot the starter was already seized. For the 90, I didnt have anyone with me, so I shot some ether in the intake and tried cranking. It promptly fired and ran long enough to burn the ether then died. Tried again and same thing. So I know the 90 is a fuel issue.

The 88 is still giving me fits. I thought I had the problem solved. On several occasions. First was the knock sensor. It was fried to a crisp, most likely from the heat coming off the starter when it fried. Replaced it and decided to check the plugs. Found the plugs ok, but the wires were bad off. I knew of one that had come off the clip and burned on the header, but found three others that were burnt at the plug side boot. Replaced those and ran the truck again. Still runs like junk. Decided to check the injectors and found the four prong plug on the side of the throttle body was busted off. Not just the plug but the whole connector housing. This was causing an air leak into the throttle body. Swapped it out for the Holly I just took off. Now the truck runs, but wont idle. I had to set the idle to just under 2krpms or else it'll stumble till it dies. And when driving, if I lug the engine below 1krpms it'll sputter and die unless I smash the gas down. But when I'm driving it's some what smooth and no more backfiring.

I'm going to have the break down and pull the fuel lines and filter. I still think someone jacked my stuff as all the fuses have been checked, and I dont think the wires have been cut as I've been able to get the one running again. But is there anything I'm overlooking?

Hey send me a PM if you need me to meet you with my ALDL cable maybe we can get it fingered out.

OK, here's an update. The 90 is running. I pulled the fuel lines and from the filter back to the tank they had a ton of what looked like silt. But from the filter forward was clean gas. SO the filter did it's job. I dropped the tank and pulle the pump. The pump doesnt turn on at all but verified it had voltage to the pump. I looked inside the tank expecting it to be full of junk but was clean as a whistle. The pump had some corrosion on the terminals, but even the sock filter was fairly clean. I think it was coincidence.

The 88 is running after I swapped my Holley TBI back on. It was still running poor and noticed a gas smell everytime I stopped somewhere. One of the fuel lines had a bad O-ring and was leaking gas onto the engine while it was running. Changed it out and now it runs smooth. The 88 still has an issue when I first start it. It'll lope for a few seconds then smooth out and the SES light lights up.

Katugly, I'll get with you next week if you're still up for doin some diagnostic work.

SO both trucks are running again. In a way I'm relieved that I didnt find anything, but I'm still pissed because I've never had both trucks break at the same time. And BTW, those carriage bolts on the bumper look pretty, but are a PITA to get off when they rust. So now I am the proud owner of a 4.5 angle grinder with a cutoff wheel. I just hacked those f***ers right off:waytogo:

Katugly, I'm sending you a PM.

OK, I thought I had the 88 running. It still had issues on startup but other than that it was running good. My wife tried driving it yesterday and it was running like crap again. So I tried it today and sure enough, somethings wrong.

Hot or cold its the same. THe truck wont idle more than a minute before it dies. And not like a sputtering die, like kill-the-switch died. When driving, if the engine rpms go below 1500rpm's, the SES light will turn off, but there is no power. And it only does this during engine braking or long stretches of low idle in gear. Otherwise the SES light is on and the engine runs at or above 2k rpm's.

I pulled the codes:
22 - Low voltage at throttle position sensor
24 - Speed sensor circuit fault (I knew this one because the auto trans was swapped for a manual)
44 - O2 sensor lean.

This truck is giving me fits! Everytime I figure out one problem, two more show up. I've already checked vacuum lines and electrical conections, so now I'm down to checking individual wires and bolts. Last week I found two headers bolts missing and all the others on that side loose. I torqued these to spec when I installed them, then checked after a few months and a couple hundred miles. How would, after two years, they would all of a sudden come loose?

RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR, I'm just pissed! This rig has to get me 1000 miles to my next base inless than 3 weeks, and now it breaks!

I dont even know where to start looking or what I'm looking for on this one. I dont really know much about how the TBI interacts with the computer or sensors.

I did mess with the idle settings after I put the Holley back on. The stock throttle body isnt adjustable, but the Holley is. When I was having the other issues, I tweaked the idle setting. It wouldnt idle so I turned it up. After fixing a few other porblems I found, I turned it back down. I can try turning it back up, but I dont want the engine racing at 2k just to keep it running.

Aside from Katugly, who has used WinALDL to watch the system while its running? If I had my way, I'd install the laptop in the truck and have it hooked up anytime I was driving to see what is going on. As it is, I'd like to go back to my idea of evything having a gauge in the cab, but I just dont have money for that now. I hate not know what is going on:(

I wonder if I can do a carb retrofit and ditch the computer all together:rolleyes:
Or better yet, convince my wife to let my install a Detriot!
