Rubicon July 2023

I've never used one of those, I just thought they looked like a cool idea. In AZ I would never even think about mounting that in the engine compartment. On my '72 I used an external Walbro with a return that went back to the tank. Originally the kit (Holley Commander 950) had a T to return the fuel back into the fuel line just before the pump. I vapor locked it the first time I took it on a long trip. Stopped at a parts store in Payson and rigged up the return line to dump back into a vent line to fix it.

It is a cool idea and I think it could work setup correctly. @mrk5 was taking a hard look at it for his crew cab before he bought the sniper setup.

I read a EFI shootout test in Car Craft or Hotrod (can't remember ) they said don't use any of the EFI manufacturers fuel pumps..said they all had issues..they used the same one single areomotive set up for each different EFI in the shootout. Had zero issues with fuel delivery.

Just had a thought after reading @skunked 's thread, would it be worth while to bring the canoe?

I’ve done Rubicon 3 times with NorCal Broncos. I was in my Jeep. For a full size I would recommend sliders and one locker as a minimum. I used my sliders everywhere and would’ve had no rockers left without them.
West to east was the way we went all 3 times with 2 nights on the trail. Start at Loon lake around noon and hit Buck Island with plenty of time to play in between. Then do day runs down to the Springs and a run up Caddy then back out to Loon on the 3rd day.
Plenty of parking at Loon for tow rigs. Gas up in Pollock Pines about 20mi from Loon. Early June will almost def have snow on the ground. We always went the the last weekend in June and actually got snowed on one morning. The next year we were swimming in Buck and no campfires allowed because of the drought.
I’m down to do a Rubicon trip for sure and would probably do Fordyce if enough people were going.
Having a whole year means I might actually have a K5 to do it in too!

So after seeing all the recent Rubicon trip photos I've been thinking about this a lot. So it seems like we should plan for the first or second weekend in June. I really want to go before it gets too damn hot.

Really depends on snowfall. It's not uncommon to have large snow drifts and downed trees blocking the trail in June. Also, it doesn't get hot on the trail although it's warm in the sun.

Or another thought, is there a slightly less busy month?

Is it US Forest Service controlled or BLM? Do they have official open and close dates?

I believe it's still considered a road. The way I understand if you feel up to it, you can go year round.

That was on the Rubicon, they got caught in on of the first big storms in January? 2017.

El Dorado National Forest mainly. There is no open or close dates however it can be shutdown anytime for erosion/water run off problems. Last year it was closed for a few days during the snow melt for erosion issues however it was quickly fixed by one or more of the 4wd groups (FOTR, RTF etc.)
