For years I've wanted to go to the Rubicon, I hate Jeeps and will not buy one and therefore wont be invited to go with "the jamboree". Nor will I pay a couple hundred dollars to enjoy a free trail, and be stuck behind everyone in the world with the word Rubicon on their hood.

I've been working on my K5 for two years and think it's about as ready as it's gonna get.

Here's the plan some date, some friends, some additional soon to be friends from CK5, two or three days, run from Loon Lake to Tahoe, drink some beer, break some stuff, have fun.

Anyone want to go? Let me know what dates and we can start from there.

August Date 22nd through the 24th -

Sweet, how many times have you ran the Roobicon? I have had the best intentions for years and have lived in N. Nevada all my life, but just haven't quite made it yet...Quad nor K5.

I'll be up for it all I need is a coulpe of wks notice. I havn't been up there in a few years.

Looks like Friday August 22nd through Sunday the 24th is the dates we're going. It's amazing how hard it is to plan outings with friends let alone strangers.

I'll keep an eye on this one. I'm down for running the Rubicon again. May go on the "Rubithon" with a bunch of buddies and there Toys. Not sure if I want the traffic jams though. If I don't go to that one and a later trip to Fordyce falls though....then I definately down to meet you guys. Are you guys experienced wheelers with winches?

It's looking like 10 rigs from all sorts of background's and experience are going. As for myself and one other we have wheeled together for a few years. I've been wheelin for like 20+ years. With this blazer only like a year and still not sure what the vehilces limits are or aren't. Yes we have wenches but they are staying home. JK

A small group of toyotas and one samari are planning on going with us in all like 10 vehicles, 15 people.

I appreciate the invite but we've got a small mob of people who are (at Least in conversation) commited to the Aug 22nd date.

August 22nd

It's just around the corner - If you are seriously interested please PM me or post up, I need to get this plan together.

So far there is 5 trucks for Friday night staying at Loon and heading in on Saturday AM and 2 more meeting in the middle.

Ok, so one person from this whole forum "may" show up - Posting pics on Monday - Have a good weekend, wish me luck!

how'd it go? I went through from WWS to tahoe last month, had a great time. heading up again this weekend, but not running the whole trail.

post up some pics!

So we did make the run – will I go back anytime soon? No! Was it fun? Yes, But…

Of all the people who started off wanting to go, our original three trucks are all that went. Two K5’s and one Samurai. We set off on Friday morning for a casual trip up to Loon Lake, great day, easy trip no problems except needing some gas. We passed Kyburz where fuel was $4.05 a gallon and figured we had enough and incorrectly figured that Ice House resort that has gas would be reasonable – it was $5.75 a gallon! $40.00 got me less than 7 gallons.

We stayed at Loon Lakes North shore campground so the Samurai could catch up after work. He got there around 9:30, after getting a little lost. The improved campground was fine and most of the people there were good folks. One exception: 4 fagot a$$ emo hippies in the site next to us stayed up all night (3:00 am) and that’s all fine, until around 1:00 am someone decided to shoot off their .22. After pulling the gun out from under my pillow and hoping they did it again, they just kept on partying like nothing happened. So at 6:00am we set the chokes to high our 350’s and after about 30 minutes figured we were warmed up enough to head out.

The trailhead after the levy was not really all that well posted, at least from a 3 hour of sleep perspective. We got a little lost right at the entrance and spent the next hour goofing around and trying to find the markers, talking to anyone who was up at 7:00 and finally finding the first tree marker. One group of people we found running a nearly stock Jeep and an old Scout said they were going to try it but kept getting hung up on the “Gate Keeper”. This is really a good idea to consider rather your ready for the ‘con right at the beginning, it doesn’t get any nicer.

We talked to everyone there and all of them, without exception had one thing to say: “Holy crap your taking that thing through?, but it’s so nice!” That was a little troubling.

Long story short we took all the main routes with one exception – Little Sluice box we took the bypass because of being so wide and having a lot of the trail to complete.

I almost flopped three times.
Broke one stub on the right front.
Crushed my left rear quarter panel.
Dented hell out of all four corners.
Cracked my windshield from flexing.

Being the tech savvy one of the bunch I was the only one with a camera able to take video and my co-pilot couldn’t figure out how to turn the damn thing on – twice I had him all setup to spot and take video, twice he screwed it up. Cousin’s – can’t live with them can’t kill ‘em.

I lost the camera in the truck somewhere right before Cadillac Hill so I didn’t get any more pictures after the bridge. Whoever keeps taking pictures of the small slab and calling it Cadillac hill, needs to have their ass kicked. That is about 1/64 of the hill and the easiest part of it at that.

Glad you had a good trip. Going up end of Sept. with some friends and looking forward to it! Gonna try the Little Sluice for the first time. I should handle it. A buddy I go with often has gone thru, so if he can I can! haha
anyway. Just for information, the Gate Keeper was blasted by the forest service to fight errosion couple years ago now. I ran it once with the "old" Gate Keeper and it was truely a "gate keeper" in those days.

Yeah I kept hearing the gatekeeper was gone, the first set of people we came to near the damn was a Scout and a nearly stock Jeep, They said the "gatekeeper" worked because they had to winch and tow each other through so they decided to scrap the run. When I got there there was some old timer who at least sounded like he knew what he was talking about, and he called the first set of obsticles the gatekeeper. I guess it still has some merit 'cause it made those early guys think.
