Running 35x15.5 on 1/2 ton axels and 3.08 gears? Bad Idea?

ask how long the axles have been sitting... and ask if they have been rebuilt? ask how many miles are on the axle. ask what the brakes look like. ask if axle has been stored outside or inside. bearings may need replacing.

were are u located? i know a place outside of Victorville, CA... Hesperia, the guy deals with nothing but military axles. He may have a brand new 14-bolt Full Floater sitting there with a detriot locker in it.

Call this guy at walker auto... he has tons and tons of 14-bolt detriot locker rear ends. new/used whatever. he has D44's and D60's out the wazoooo!

Right now I have 1/2 tons axles, 10 bolt rear 12 bolt front 3.07 gears. I want to run 35's... Option #4 sounds good? would that be a nice upgrade from what I have? or should I look around more?

:haha: :haha: :haha:

fyi b/c noregrets just wants to laugh and not help out aparently...there is no such thing as a 12b front...12b axles are for the rear.

So you might have a 12b rear and a 10b front...just look here and figure it out...or post up pics and we can tell ya'...

Lots of conflicting info, I run 35s on 10 bolt fronts & rears with 4:10 gears (relaced 3:08s) Deroit lockers front & rear, a TH400 and NP208, HD trans cooler, never had any problems and I wheel it HARD! A turned up 6.2 diesel shoves it around pretty well, just dont have the throttle response a gas engine has. If you want the speedo to run close to right get the speedo gears for the R&P you are using. then just adjust for the larger tires, when I first did mine 60mph was 75 on the speedo, and 70mph was over 80. Drove by tachometer more than speedometer till I got the speedo gears.

right on man, thank you. Yea I must have got them mixed up last time I counted. Yes 12 rear 10 front...

Front (chrome cover because I thought I was going to be keeping the these axles, I hadnt got to the rear yet) waste of money...

Whats the bar under the rear end? I took the front one off because it was bent and thought I could hammer it back into place.

i think that the new dodges have a 12-bolt front under em, but they are not GM axles, obviously. They are NOT dana 60's either. I can guarantee that. The fronts are not Full Float hubs either (no lock outs or flanges). This is the new dodge.

im sorry, but that is not a GM Corp 10 bolt with a chrome cover... you have a a Dana 44 and a 12-bolt rear. YUKON Gear makes nice hop-up kits for the 44. I would keep that and maybe go 8-lug hubs. install that 14-bolt Full Floaty rear, and you will be set.

keep the Dana 44 front... unless you are like me and just balls-out blow money on something that you just want braggin rights to... like the Dana 60. I like to go wheelin' and not really do any tough trails, my truck is too cherry. I just like to have the right to say, "i have a dana 60 under my JIMMY. And it will pull yo house off its foundation!" LOL!

NOREGRETS..... there are 12-bolt fronts... just not with GM. Look at the new dodge. why you wanna laugh and not help? LOL!

I know this has kind of been discussed, but I am wondering is it bad in the long run to do this? Is it too much strain on my axels? I have 4" blocks in the back, is that a bad idea to run 35's with those?

and we're sorry about side tracking your thread, but in my NOT SO HUMBLE OPINION it is a very bad idea. use that calculation i told you about for your new gear ratio. That will side track any tranny issues you may have down the road, or off the road.

no need to keep your front 44 you have now...if your gears suck, then buying a matched set of 4.10 3/4 ton axels will be cheaper then regearing the ones you have now...less labor, less time swapping parts, less money..sell your current axles while they are worth a damn and still in decent shap. yes you can wheel a 10 bolt rear stock on 35's...gas milage will suck with 3.08s, and if or when the rear blows then you will have a tow bill, down time, money out of pocket or a blown budjet.

the real way to do it would be to get the 3/4 tons, clean them up, go through the axels, seals, bearings if your feeling frisky, put some hubs on it and at the same time you will learn alot about how to maintain, tear down and repair you axel for the future. A plus is that the rig is still drivable while you do this..
