Ryoken's 89 Crew Cab Tubebed build... aka Mutt....

thanks Scott! :D

now I just gotta do the tube bed so something is actually built on it... :haha:
Thanks. Hard to tell in the picture but it looks like the color is pretty close.

I was leaning toward stocks, tho those smoked you where using are in the running... undecided...

hey Scott, quick question... could I get a zombie squad in that red/orange if I wanted?

opinions from the masses wanted on this thought... one thing I was considering, and still am, is using the orange as a shadow effect for a charcoal version offset in front.. I had Scott do a charcoal one too... kinda like how the grill GMC is...

but at this point, i'll run the orange for a bit till it warms up and see how I like it...

obviously if I try it and don't like it, I can always pull the charcoal off.. the 2 things I'm concerned with will be how readable it becomes if I do that..

and also, I kinda had a brainfart when putting the orange on and went all the way up near the weatherstrip, so the orange shadowing effect would have to be at the top of the charcoal, as opposed to under it as you would most often see I'd guess...

I would give the charcoal one a shot with the shadow effect. To me the orange one is too much by itself. It's like a billboard on the front when I think a more subtle look would be much better. I don't think you want the window sticker to be the main object to catch the eye but rather something you notice AFTER you are wowed by the rest of the truck (and the duck :woot:).

Just my opinion.

thanks.. yup, that was my thought too... subtle, but easily readable...

I guess how much orange I leave exposed will be important... I'll give it a shot one day when it's not stoopid cold..

Yeah, we could do a zombie squad in the warm red.

It does need to be above 40F to apply the vinyl.

There's not specifically a down side to layering the vinyl. You can see where the overlap is, but it's not something you will notice unless you're looking for it.

yeah it was like 45 when I did that, but it's below 30 again now.. :doah:

thanks! :D

I looked at font's for 2 freakin hr's.. :(

got a whole folder full of potentials... after all that, I decided to go with a pretty common, easily read one.. :doah:

it's Arial Black... :haha:

I think a smaller over lay in charcoal like the grill emblem would look good on there.

well, that looked like poo... :doah: :haha:

did it down and left and it becomes very difficult to read... only did the "BUILT" and realized it wasn't gonna work..

but in the process, I realized the only way to make it look good is to have a border/perimeter around the whole letter equally in the orange.. like the grill GMC.. so thus, a same, but smaller charcoal letter...

wont be doable on Scott's end, BUT, with the other 2 words, I was able to determine that the best route is to trim each letter down myself and apply each individually..

like on the T here..

not even a 100% I'm gonna like how that looks, but i'll try it out..

so Scott  when ya get a chance, run me off another of that charcoal one.. and also do the 12" zombie squad without the bottom phrase in the warm red...

shoot me a pm with a total at your convenience, no rush, doubtful I'll get any more 60 degree days this winter! :eek1: :haha:

kinda where I'm headed.. gearing up for a 10 stick tube order... main tube runs will be 2" DOM, smaller runs around the lower boxes, fuel tank, etc will be 1.5"

top angle stuff I'll figure out as it's coming together... where the spare will mount, how far forward I can get the gooseneck....

the 2 long boxes on each side will be 2 drawers in one, behind a folddown door.. than a deep single partitioned drawer in the other.. 1 of each on each side..

than it'll have the hang unders, which will just be a watertight door...

I'm gonna have these guys make em up....

I'm hoping it'll be under 2 g's for the boxes... :haha: if I get outta this project for under 5 g's it'll be a miracle... :doah: :pimp:

for some reason i'm just now noticing the grille. its beautiful, with all blacked out like that. never even considered it.

hopefully... one thing I've been pretty certain of is, not wanting any diamond plate look about it.... satin panels broken up by the black tube.. same 3/8 ss countersunk I ran in the blazer cage/panel setup to bolt the alum in....

I want the boxes to have a satin alum look to em... I was gonna do the inset "bolt-in" alum panels with just smooth alum.. scrubb em down with steel wool every now and then.. a burnished look...

I'd want the door fronts smooth satin no matter what.. but I am kinda second guessing myself on the top stuff... diamond plate certainly would be more utilitarian on the top flats...

and scuffed dull dp wouldn't look all "my 18 wheel big rig chromadiamond sun flare" panels are ghey look about it
...
it'll have flat panels above the box, than it'll step down vertical in by the rails.. than the gooseneck and frame rail width to the back... drop in center panels to hide the gooseneck... so I could still put a fridge up in there or something..

probably wouldn't be a bad idea, could get slick walking around up there with just smooth dull alum.. but boy that would look tough as snot....

Could you carry the tubework all the way over the top and place your light bar closer to the front, or would that be gay? :dunno:

kind of merge it into a nice utility rack

I'm picturing a shallow basket with sturdy borders...kind of like I have seen on some Land Rovers...
