Ryoken's 89 Crew Cab Tubebed build... aka Mutt....

btw.....

big pat on the back to the idea'r man behind angling the oval taillights?

A+ build thought there back during that discussion.. take a bow, young/decrepid pad-i-wan...... :haha:

I think the taillight panels are gonna be THE killer piece on the whole bed.. over the cute tubegate, slick doors, the coffin, prerunner spare/C/lightbar, etc.. it's gonna be this panel...

I knew THAT compound angle was the way to go ever since I built the balsa stage the first time around.. that the angled tail light panel would be the "break point" of the overall look...

(trust me, that DAMN amber lightbar is gonna be the same!:haha::popcorn: :doah: :deal: )

the edge-lit plexi idea is/was awesome.. but combining that size oval light with that angle of the tubegate, nicely spaced down that expanse of alum, is just gonna be flat out badarse looking  :pimp:  :waytogo: :woot: :saweet:

perfect proportion to the shape and styling of the rig/tubebed... props to you for pointing me on that line! :waytogo:

the sequencer doesn't even matter.. :dunno: the "stills" are gonna be perfect proportion/symetry...

the vid, is just gonna be the punch in the face.. :saweet:

looking back, I think it was Fubeca who came up with that cranium gem... :waytogo:

hopefully it doesn't come to that... as I've said, my torch access is a HUGE nuisance...

on such a small area would it be beneficial to hit the he!! out of it with the heatgun? I have a couple good heatguns I can get that last foot way hot......

pair of work gloves, Magic 8 ball and a tree is all I need!!! :woot: :haha:

:D

I hope it looks good!

With the different radius of the top and bottom curves, are you going to have to cut a special shape to make the bent piece line up around the corner?

oh, yeah, it's goofy shaped.. :haha: the 2 "ends" aren't parallel... the whole end curves down... I did that from that oaktag template light mockup deal... I left it a tad big as it goes around the bend...

as with most of this panel fitting, trimming the edges down to the right size is what takes forever... grind, fit, mark, regrind, rinse repeat..

this week's blurry projects and schtuff....

muffler... zero-rate stuff...

get the tubegate inner panel done (ordered steel to redo the latch handles too)...

start seeing about getting the winch in....

mufflers quite... we'll see how it sounds under load.. I may switch to a snottier muff when I build a tailpipe.. stooopid ghey manifolds and tappy anemic TBI BB are just ghey... needs stout headers and 40 series dammit!!!?!!!? :woot:

for now i'll run it dumping out the magnaflow to keep the po-po smilin..

I'd like to get my local Meineke doing some neat work for me starting in the fall.... my old guy is 40 miles away... in oct, just bend me up a nice tailpipe thru the lower hitch jungle gym to a good looking tip out the back below the sequential joy...... :pimp:

if I likey, you can do a whole setup off the Cummins when that goes in.. ;) ;) :waytogo: :haha:

but you know how that goes, 99.2% of there stuff is Prius's and such to put food on the table.. they don't put the "bad" labor time in actually building sumfin cool... we'll see....

but they did put a cat in Mutt.. and the guy digged the sh*t out of it when it was a dayum stoooopid balsa stage.. :pimp:

tho they do appear to be *coughfurdstangcough* fellers.. but me thinks he might wanna hook it up a bit more now with the tubebed, tank, Chip Foose wet dreams, burnished bling with ducks squakin.....  :pimp:

with dizzle swaps down the road, exhaust is always up in the air... just wish it wasn't manifolds, but trying to keep it smog Nazi happy for now.... and didn't have lifters giving me the finger side by side with the anemic TBI cam.. headers would hide that at least..

anyway... stoopid factory plug in the fuel tank failed.. had to pull the pickup again, with the tank installed.. thankfully the jungle gym doesn't affect it... said fock ya and soldered a direct lead to the pmp.. Mutt pants again... doing a zero rate sat...

maybe i'll, okay, yeah.. i'll be driving it to the marina next Monday.... :deal: :haha:

oh, just a cowinkydink... I JUST printed out the drawer pdf file from Highway Safety Products... cough3weeksfordrawingscough, signed it, and sent it back to em... :woot: :dunno:

hopefully middle, early may they'll be showing up... he'll e-mail me a date..

but I need the spool gun and argon tank before I can get those side doors on... for the hinges not that that stops me from installing the drawers... those doors (alum welding) get's purchased on the 3rd...

but hopefully that all times out.. kill the treebending taillight close encounters project, than flow right into drawer/door goodness...

:dunno:  :haha: :o

wow.... :eek1:  have I been drinkin THAT much?!?????? :haha: :pimp: :p:

Magnaflows usually "deepen" a bit as they get some heat cycles in. They are just fancy glasspacks.

My last one barked hard under load.

cool.. hopefully it has a bit sumfin sumfin when in the pedal.... it's a nice looking piece... fits good.. wouldn't want any bigger tho...

before I inspect in 016, I'll have to do a tailpipe... so I have some time to decide if I like it..

They're not chambered like Flowmasters so you don't get that brappy chug when the exhaust gasses pulse at idle.

Some like that sound, some don't.

opinions on said sounds to soon follow...

lights should be here Friday... I'm thinking/guessing/hoping Kert got the spare rim today.. prolly should pm him bout that...

oh, :haha: :haha: :haha:

I can't believe I have to actually ask this in a build thread.... :doah: :pimp: :haha:

if I buy a 12" x 48" concrete sonotube, how many bags (40, 50?lb bags) do I need to fill it up like 2"? 1 bag enough, or get 2? get what quickcrete? :dunno:  :haha:

and is the inside (concretes outside) diameter 12", correct? so I really need to cut off the sonotube and have exposed concrete to have a true 12" diameter, righto? :dunno: :ears: :o

Ryoken - concrete idjit other than resto-ing mixers and killing coping..

sheesh.. I'm gonna need 5 or 6 bags to make a 2' long slug o' crete? :dunno: :doah:

wtflock is this thing gonna weigh???!!:eek1:!?>>?????? :eek1:

the things we do as fabbers.... :pimp: :haha:

edit... I think 12 to 15" would do it if it stayed together... so maybe as little as 3 bags or something.. the panel bend is only about 7" across..

also.. the crete is secondary.. I may not even use it, so the minimum is important/beneficial... if those tubes are solid enough and the diameter is close, I may just use the tube and some manhood points...

btw...

can anyone guess how insane my brain will be going when the lights get here at the end of the week? :dunno:

blinky panel, must make blinky panels...
