Ryoken's 89 Crew Cab Tubebed build... aka Mutt....

See no matter where I go and no matter what the people do you can appreciate what they put into their car. Blood sweat beers. Its the skill and the work and the time that really means something. Even if its not our cup of tea we as people who tinker, fabricate, and fix we can appreciate the effort. That's what the so called "judges" missed.

Also back to the weight note....I was in the quarry with my dually, dump trailer, myself, my worker,30 gallons of diesel, and my big a$$ weather guard loaded to the gills and I was at 13100. My trailer was 3600 empty according to the manufacturer, my guy said he weighs 230, I weigh 180. So, I would imagine my 3500 crew cab weighs I am just guessing just over 8000. Seems about right to me.

Mutt with a dawn view......

I hope you're submitting this for the calendar.

eh, I kinda forgot how car shows tend to be... :screwy:

anyone "in" that kinda "circuit" kinda dismiss's sh*t like mine.. THE one judge guy that came by didn't even look at the tubebed....
I was at a car show a few years ago and hung around to see where the awards would go. A basically stock 90-something mustang won most of the awards. Admittedly it looked really clean, but nothing special that I could see. I was shocked until a guy I knew there said that the owner had a lot of relatives around and pretty much won whenever he showed up. I quit caring about who won at car shows at that point.

the Ronald McDonald heep winning over mine for 4x4 kinda said it all... that didn't matter.... it was just kinda more the, i guess, "snobbery" of the people involved that i found annoying...

the fans where awesome tho!

tune up for Muttly in the morn....

Why go to judged car shows? Don't they have a weekly cruise in car show around your area?

sigh.. it just happened to be the one in town that I conveniently decided to go to.. it's not like I'm building something to "enter in car shows".... it's my DD'er...

they do have a "downtown, cruise-night", kinda deal a couple towns over I could probably hit up next yr.. but again, if it's convenient and I'm not doing anything, maybe I'll drive it thru.. it's no big thang, I'm not going out of my way to "enter" the rig in shows...... I'm just tryin to show the rig to the hata's.... sway a few hubcap,, 2-tone, minds....

so, being lazy........ I tend to not go under the hood of Mutt for months on end...:haha:

it bit me this time... did plugs back at the beginning of the summer, and in my rush, didn't direct my boots properly.. developed a miss this week, pop the hood, burned a couple boots... :doah::angry1:

so new plug wires today.... went with orange this time to match the RR......

now it makes the old red firewall stand out.. :doah: :haha:

eh, when I do the 6BT swap, I'll paint it the right color... to match the, oh wait, ummm yeah....:smokin2: :haha:

.

I was so pissed at myself.. 1 on each bank, completely wedged up against the manny... they held up for almost 3 months till it gave up the ghost....

eh, the orange looks better than the red anyway... had to buy a new MFY kit tho in black.. but that universal kit is like under $20, no big... runs like a scalded dog again... :burnout: well, as much as that anemic 454 will! :doah: :haha:

had to step up to the spiro's tho to get em in orange...

now I just need a recliner and I can live in the LAB™..............

finally broke down and ran a cable and second box to the garage...my bud helped me put the 200 lb monstrosity of a tv up on the cab...

I'm actually digging it.. for decades all I've had in my shop where tunes, and that's great... but it's been nice to have a choice of background noise... didn't have to "miss" the end of the tournament today cuz I was down fabbing....

That shop is waaay clean! Makes me jealous!

been cleaning it up the last couple weeks.. threw a fresh coat of gray down on the floor last week...

kinda done on Mutt till the spring now.. it's running awesome, skinny pedal mashes daily........ I did put a custom rad overflow setup in it today... repurposed an old Summit alum vacuum canister

SUM-G1460_ml.jpg

I had laying around as an overflow... maybe i'll get pics this week..

mainly been getting the other black 2wd rig running good and thru inspection... got the 4.3 passed smog with flying colors.. put 2 new General Grabbers on the back... and redid all the brakes including all new e-brake cables... next on the list for that rig is fix the non-existent heat and eventually do the rotted cab mounts...

I'll be on the lookout this week while cruising around for some last minute spots for some good calendar pics for Mutt.. might take it over to the beach...

well... after relooking at my finances/schedule over the coming months, I lied.... :haha:

being I have pretty much zero funding for any vehicle stuff till march or so, I'm gonna work on Mutt's front bumper for awhile to keep myself busy...

I'll get into K5 stuff after x-mas, when the weather turns.. hopefully I can squeeze in a few sheckles to get a windshield for that.... than I can finally get the inside floor bedlined and start putting the interior together... winter fab work for that will be a back bumper....
