Ryoken's 89 Crew Cab Tubebed build... aka Mutt....

Looks like you put amber lens over the clears in the middle to have all amber

it's way too narrow.. wolo unfortnately only makes a 48"..

it's pretty much a done deal... i'm gonna pop on that 64" aerostar i posted in the next week or so.. satin black trim.. almost did it today... the fed sig led can be the dream lottery one for down the road...

i'm also probably gonna go for the second AC unit in the next month, so both rigs are ready to go...

dont forget the aircraft landing lights, fore and aft, starboard and port

that $2400 fed sig led was like that.. they have a "configuator" empty 60" shell was $1550.. full amber leds behind all amber glass was like $2400 minimum... but you could have the lights set up anyway, rear work lights, etc, etc....

that 64" is actually a bangin deal.. it's a 6 rotator.. most in that price range are 4...

the thing i've been forgetting about, but re-reminding myself every time i walk outside the last day or so and look at is, it's a dually... the bed is way wide... a 56" up top, while working with the C-hoop angle, would be poorly proportioned to the bed boxes/rails overall...

All I know is a rig that big needs to be lit up....like Close Encounters lit up....whatever it takes to get it there

yeah, for in the cap of my black 2wd GMC beater... it's my "long distance" kennel and will still be used some here and there thruout the summer... and it is also honestly, much roomier than Mutt for Kai ...

and so the insanity begins.... ;)

I'm actually stoked on it..

already mocked the cover up there.. I think it's gonna look cool with the light bar.... need to order that in the next day or 2... want both mocked up there for final roof hack.....

that brings up another issue that I'll go into over the next few weeks about how this affects the interior build......

gonna leave the lower metal "pan" the factory black, and paint the white cover the Ryoken Red ™ ;)
I think it'll help break it up just a bit.... like a hull to turret joint.... :weapon39:

.

oh, and that interior duct/control panel will be black....

Are you going to mount that centered on the roof? How big of a hole are you going to put in there?

well, it'll be as far back as i can go and properly space the light bar between it and the spare... i have an idea within a few inches at this point... the 14" x 14" hole will catch about where the dome light is at the front of it...

Not to derail from the AC unit, but did you call that guy from Iowa on the light bar? I'm 35 miles from Des Moines and I'm there for work almost every day. Ironically I'll be in @TREA18's neck of the woods the next few days and won't be around to go look until Sunday

thanks mang :)

nah, i'm good, pretty certain i know exactly what it is, and i'm on hold..

i'm wussying out on this project for a few months... :o

i'm gonna put the unit in the black rig first to wet my feet with the idea.. fiberglass cap with ply core = much easier/safer install..

it's best for Kai.. i was being selfish, i miss DD-ing Mutt huge. but i need to maintain the black rig as a main transportation rig for Kai, for now... the back is much bigger and more comfortable for him, for now... I want to make sure Mutt is "right' when i start doing mon-fri with pooch in tow....

once i get moving on the kennel stuff more, this attitude will prolly change.... after doing the cap install, i'll have a much better idea of what's involved.. i'm concerned about oil-canning the roof... there are multiple ways to combat this issue, i just don't want to be forced into an undesirable solution cuz i have a 14" x 14" hole in my roof... :doah: :haha:

the most obvious is to have a tab from the divider wall on either side helping support the unit... but if i decide to do this, i need to have the floor work done first.... there are some other, more involved answers, but we'll leave that for if I need that approach...

so it looks like i may not be DD'ing Mutt till sometime in the summer at this point...

You should look for a used vector light bar. That's what a lot of PDs were using before switching to LEDs. The V shape would give you more room to mount the AC behind the light bar and still give the lights better side visibility than a straight bar. Amber lenses are still available.

Hey Paul. I was wondering how Kai was doing?

Cant post in the lounge right now so I thought I would ask here and bump your thread up too...also wanted to know if you have been working on the Mutt any? Sure hoping Kai is doing better!

hey bud, thanks for asking..... it went away on sat, hopefully for good... so that's twice now, jan for a week, and march for 2 wks...... just glad to have my happy boy back...

Mutt is untouched currently, but had fun rompin it yesterday.... as soon as i get the black rig AC up and going, i'll be looking to spend time with the mallard... ;)

Right on! Glad to hear that with Kai!

Looking forward to seeing what you do next with the truck.

thanks! i am taking this time to re-examine the idea of putting an AC unit under the kennel floor.... don't think it's doable, but exploring the option...

the biggest issue on the rig is determining when i think i can commit x hr's a week to Mutt's floor, and how long that will take... with work... putting the rig down for that month or 2 prolly, mentally.... :screwy: :haha:

well, that, and finding funds for the tank/drawer work... working on paying down some racked up CC's for the next 2, 3 months.....

sooooooooooo.... after the tv comment from the chicky at McD's the other night, further life stuff...

and the 16 yr old version of

MV5BMTUxNjQ4MjU5Ml5BMl5BanBnXkFtZTcwMTY5NzAzNw@@._V1_UY317_CR14,0,214,317_AL_.jpg

tonight telling me from the same window, that my rig was "fly", ;) tell's me.

I need to start cooking and change my dAmn diet! :haha: :haha: :haha: :doah: :o man, I miss rompin this rig daily... poundin fuel, but boy, the mallard's a BLAST! :saweet:

and Mutt needs a bit of wuv this summer too... for as much chit as I'm gnna ;) throw at blackie for the next month or so to make it reasonable, I'm planning for Mutt some too...

I feel guilty.. my tool boxes are getting hammered from road sludge and i need to contend with it... :doah:

kennel/floor deal is on backburner till the 55 gal tank, and toolboxes can be addressed in the rear...

FINISH SOME CHIT OFF!

bang the credit card payments down some, and hopefully do this in july/aug... figure i need 2 g's.. this also forces me to do the ps dual bat box, and rear winch for "fill" work..... which is fun/joy/fab schtuff at not a ton of money.. other than the fancy schmancy bat toys i plan on.... nudge, nudge... wink, wink....... :screwy:...
