Ryoken's 89 Crew Cab Tubebed build... aka Mutt....

did a final mockup today and figured out mounting.... just gonna be a couple 4" sections of 1.5" with a couple 3" x 5" plates on top... a pair of custom T-plate will utilize the factory mounting...

but i gotta get the clutch done in the other rig first....

stoked on Mutt.... DD'ing it lately has got me giddy..

tho I've got the trans and body mounts to do on the other rig, all upcoming funding will go towards Mutt's tank deal for a bit later in the summer... hopefully mid -july i'll be doing that....

the lightbar mounting will be a couple weeks more than likely... i figure "a sunday"....

actual car clear huh? i figured most people were using one of those wipe-on polymers or similar.... I'm not overly concerned at this point, i'll keep my eye on them obviously....

Yessir, I haven't seen the customer in a while, but he hasn't called to bitch either. I've tinted tail lights the same way, urethane clear with a touch of black base coat. They look great and last

alrighty, for those that didn't see these on FB...

wow not to be a prick but them some SLOOOOOW rotator lights in there . my streethawk are faster and that's on the low speed units . I have low/high speed in it .

does look COOL tho man :cool1:

Frickin A that thing compliments the truck perfectly. The slow rotation and old school look are drool worthy

I gotta ask the dumb question, what is the light bar for?

well, the rig is eventually supposed to be my "retirement" gig..... Angry Mallard Marine & Hauling.... eventually get a hydro gooseneck trailer and haul boats... ya need something for oversized loads and such... but for now it's strictly aesthetic, ya know, the brain pic..... I'm not even sweating getting it wired at this point... I'd rather spend my wiring time replacing the sequencer module for the right tail lights...

Ah ok makes a ton of sense! It looks cool as heck too!

I like the light bar on the roll bar as long as you're not going to run the AC on the roof. I think the AC will block too much of the light from the front. You'll notice that all the EMT trucks in the state have a light bar towards the front of the truck, the AC unit in the middle and a light bar on the back. I'd test fit/ lay the AC unit up there to see how much of your lights are blocked. You may find that you'll have to move the light bar right up behind the cab lights w/ the AC behind it and put some yellow wig wags facing backwards on each side of the spare.

Sweetk30 is right about the amp draw. You may be able to find an LED conversion bulb that will cut down electrical requirements.

I would polish the plastic instead of spraying on clear. Once you paint something you'll always have to worry about repainting. One-Step plastic polish would be easy to apply w/ a buffer. I use it to finish acrylics after I've turned them on the lathe, put it on while the piece is still spinning. I would not be surprised if it's not very similar to some of the marine polishes you have/ use at the marina.

I've also used the Mother's kit to clean up and polish the milky headlight covers on my ex's car. It worked very well.

thanks.... the lenses look fine, but i will probably treat them later in the summer... and I will NOT be running the AC up there.... but yeah, that's why i was looking at 60" wides, so the AC wouldn't hide a ton of it....

keep in mind guys.... this will not be getting used a ton, even when i do start hauling... i won't be running down the street with them on for every boat... just the oversized ones.... it's not like I'm a tow truck that's gonna use them daily, and wants speed, visibility, etc...

I'm gonna also have a badarse pair of diffused work floods up on the C-hoop pointed to the back for working...

that's annoying, I can't find the drawing/measurements I did for the tank... tape measure and a bourbon this sunday.. ;)

I'm gonna look to get that project going sometime in June.... i'm guessing it'll be a couple weeks lead time...

That bourbon increase your measurement accuracy? :D
Drink twice measure once.

I definitely come up with some of my best design ideas when wasted... ;)

pretty sure I was 1/2 in the bag when I came up with the cranium concept for the bed/rig.. :haha:

wanna work on the rig sunday, just not sure what I'll do...

What's a pair of custom 8" front springs from ORD/ Alcan gonna run me? $800?

gonna try and get Mutt up another inch or 2 when I do the Cummins.... it'll actually catch sheetmetal turning into certain driveways and such currently.... and that's with the axle pushed up 1.5", and 6 + 1" lift...

throw in I hate being the same height as all the stoopid new stock trucks.... :haha:
