Ryoken's 89 Crew Cab Tubebed build... aka Mutt....

Looks nice. I thought you should have enclosed these from the beginning. I knew shtuff was going to get up in there and make a mess of things, especially bad when you live at the shore. Are you going to put a sealing drawer front on?

I like tool rolls. They're a nice way to keep things organized and prevent then from banging around in a drawer. I thing they're especially handy for long skinny things line wrenches and screwdrivers. I'm sure you could find a canvas maker that can slap some together. I had my mother make me some for some of my mags for shooting. No one made them long enough for 15 round 1911 or 32 round Glock mags. I just bought some cheap denim at walmart, laid out what I had and she sewed up some pockets. Only cost me about $4.

well, the rig would still be sitting in the driveway if i waited till it was "done" ;)

I'm definitely considering some pouching, and all configs... i'm down there now laying tools out for average length, compartment #'s, screwdrivers, wrenches, sockets, prybars, yada.. i've always loved my snappy roll-up wrench deal... have it, but don't use it these days.. but one thing i'm thinking about is a nice soft, closed cell foam, about an inch or 2 thick that i can snugly fit down in various sections for on top of loose stuff... the variety of stuff i run, pouches can't work for everything...

Not sure my brain just didn't catch it, but how are you keeping the dividers from spinning around inside the drawer?

you're one of them there idea-r guys...... ;)

funny you mention that... :haha: i meant to update.. that one slides in nice and snug, doesn't really move (benefits of the beltsander).. but yes, being 4 points, you give it a pop and it will turn.. so, it actually does go in/out with the drawer in.... :o

now, that can't/won't happen with the others as they will have multiple contact points... the simplicity of this one is screwing me..

to be honest, it's definitely snug enough that i could prolly leave it.. that's the "hard cases" drawer... but i will probably put a tack at the top of a couple walls.. like i said, gonna have to do it on that other one anyway... so i'm down to 2 removable.. and that's fine.. i kinda figured that's what it would end up being...

still don't think I want to fully burn them into the drawers tho.. couple nicks of a cutoff wheel will pull em out in a pinch... but i will more than likely burn all the divider joints in.. waiting on wire coming monday.... starting to get my feel back for flowing Al again... burnin the box in took way less time than i thought it would....

so it looks like 2 drawers will be getting individual compartment liners... still not sure what route i'm going, or combo of for that.. need to go thru my faves from my magnet sheet research..

Maybe lock in the back side with just adding two more pieces from each back corner to the center X. Hold em in with Velcro or two sided tape.....or something. Should lock everything in and nothing is permanent??

Edit: or make the added piece on the back side run from corner to corner and cut joinery into the added piece and the back top side of the X so they interlock? Tough to explain, maybe?

La-Z-Boy ships their truckloads with "spare" foam between the odd shaped items...

Usually comes in sections 2-3 feet wide and 5-8 feet long, 1-4 inches thick...

If you have large enough dealer near you, ask for some.

Could burn a couple of tacks onto the walls to make some ridges for the dividers to slide between.

good idea, i did think of that... than if i ever did reconfigure it, i could just add a couple new tacks, and grind off the old ones... i guess it boils down to how much i want the dividers to be removable... the amount of tacking/grinding will be minimal either way...

awesome... that's exactly the kind of thing I'm talking about.. wouldn't even had thought of a place like that.. see, I'd be off looking at the eleventy types of foams they have at mcbible... my prob is, i know what i want material-wise, but i get lost in all the descriptive mumbo tech jumbo..

i figure if i cut block for each compartment that fit nice and snug, you just throw back on top and tap it down.. maybe pop a couple finger pull holes in each.. i think that combined with magnet sheet could work really well... it allows for a compartment stacked with screwdrivers to be held down...

I would, at some point in time, consider an actual 2-piece foam deal where it has cutouts for each tool... they lay in the lower 1/2 "tray".. than for transport you put the top back on.. BUT that is such a pipedream on lot's of fronts.. to get myself down organize-wise to those kind of specifics, throw in other projects put that at priority #84....

you made my brain hurt..... :haha:

the jenga interlock is how i did the dividers... if you were tacking/welding them to the outer perimeter, you wouldn't even need the full beads at the joints.. the overlap deal was nice and snug.. nice 90 corners... but if i did that one, i'll do the rest.. need the trigger time anyway..

Jenga.....

this was the config that will get tacked due to the full compartment to the right...

wire should be here tomorrow...

wetsanded the prior box out today for the most part... really wish I could live with the DA machine cut, Sharkhided....

wish they made rolls of longboard sandpaper in wet.. :( I'd hurl kittens off a bridge for such an item... :ignore:

That stuff is pretty cool.

i hope it's relatively thick "feeling" :dunno: :haha: i looked around and unless you get custom stuff made, that's as thick as it gets it looked like... I'm definitely one for tossing tools back into a drawer, hoping it's pretty tough... I think I'll just be doing the individual compartments for now... that way, no seams..

hmmmm, carpet color for the other drawer? my auto-brain reaction is black.. I guess a gray would work too.. stoopid thing is, I need to redo my stairs carpet this yr, and it's a steel grayish indoor/outdoor.. the other thing is, the 4th drawer is a ways off anyway as i need to get the tank done first... but i'll be sure to stow away some scraps....

burned up my last contact tip today... hopefully, my 10 pack is sitting down at work from UPS for tomorrow..

I wonder if you went to a sign shop and just asked to buy some with out the sign? They might give you a pretty good deal, and you could at least feel it before the order?

We ordered magnetic signs for one of our semi's and it's pretty nice stuff.

actually, now that you mention that.. I may have a guy, i'll ask him next time I see him.. thanks!

We use quite a bit of the Magnum Magnetics stuff. That eBay price is about the same as my cost on it from our vendors. Only advantage being I can get just a foot if that's all we need.

Good to know. So, that is a good quality product in the Ebay ad?

Did you see this offer?

$10 shipped for assorted 10 pack of flap disks.

Wasn’t it you raving about this brand?

Drawers look great!
