Ryoken's 89 Crew Cab Tubebed build... aka Mutt....

I did like the original design...don't know why they have to get rid of the old to make a new design...they should offer both...
I got a set of Commercial Terrain All Season 235/75R15 for my skinny wheels...I m told they don't make those at all anymore in the 15" size...I hope they don't stop making 15" AT T/A's too...love BF Goodrich though...:waytogo:

right... I've always been a BFGoodrich fan and have had good luck with many different models in the past, I'm guessing the KM2 gets pretty good reviews....

that's not a particularly stock size.. nearest ones are in delaware.. tho I think Summit will ship 6 for about $55.... it'll end up about $250 a tire installed, balanced, out the door..

I figure it's a good upgrade till I go to 37's, which may be a while... instead of jerking around buying 235's piecemeal, just get 6 new 255's and be done with it for a couple yrs...

I'm buying 6 of these on the 16th....

255/85-16 or 33.1" x 10"

blackwall out of course..... they should fit the dually rims right?
I'm anxious to see Paul...I think that might be tight between the tires though...are you taking the truck in to get them mounted or just the rims...perhaps they could mount a pair, then mount them on the truck to check tire clearance between them.
diggin' the bedwork...is the tube going to be similar in size/shape?

the 235's seem relatively gappy on there.. I'm also thinking if I need just that tad bit more, I'll run the cheap 1/4" spacers or something... I don't plan on heavy loads on em weight-wise..

not sure on having the rig there, that kinda depends on when I get plates on it... come the 16th, I'm buying tires...

the tube bed will be the same width basically, and a bit shorter... it wont be as pronounced at the cab corners, as the bed section will have the tube bend radius.. and the the B-hoop will be just "outside" of the cab sheetmetal.. if that makes any sense.. :haha:

it will also have the angle in bit going on at the back.. but down also...

Man, Paul, seeing that flat bed brings back so many great memories of when I built mine for my K20.

I love the angled corners and I am looking forward to this build and its documentation.

As long as you arent hauling a heavy load you should be alright but i hauled some decent loads with my flatbed and those 235s got close, remember also if you are really tight and one tire gets a bit low it can increase the bulge enough to cause issues.

I think once you get it loaded up with trailer you will need an inch spacer but with small loads and no trailer i think it will be fine

So I think you could load the nogo on there to haul it away. You will love the km2 by the way, my logger buddy runs them on his Ford dually. He spends more time in the brush in a week than most do in a year.

the Nogo is being retired to marina yard scooter duty... :haha:

the flatbed still has some shine here and there, as that last coat dries to flat.... the frame is satin... think it turned out pretty decent for a couple days work and about $150....

a big plus being that I can remove/install it by myself in about 10 minutes....

now i gotta figure out which stripe to use around the edge... and on the back..

I've got yellow and black diagonal striped in 2"... neon yellow and black diagonal striped in 3"... and red/white checkerboard in 3"...

think it'll be striped on the sides and angle in's on the back.. than masybe the red/white checkerboard in the middle back...

gotta mount the mudflaps this weekend, and hopefully a fuel fill....

oh, stats are about 9 2 x 4's, and 2 sheets of 3/4" ply... and a gallon of duck blind flat black... I'd guess it weighs between 225 and 250 lb's...

it was the simplest solution to a problem.. a far cry from what the tube bed will be.. :doah: :haha:

WOW! That stuff is reflective...I still say you need the nude girl on the mudflaps...:eek1:

I actually like it also! Alot! Almost a shame its getting replaced. Do you ever plan on shortening the wheel base? Or go ahead and leave it long?

I agree, it looks great! Im sure, after seeing your K5, that the tube bed will be amazing, and I cant wait to see it!

yeah, I would like to shorten up the WB a couple inches at least... for the immediate future, it'll be a sane 56 pack, a 4" flip and move the axle up 1.5" with a zero rate i have... down the road I'll do something more extreme with inboarding, bags, yada..

Excellent. Im just not usually a fan of the super long wheel base with super bobbed bed look ya know? It gets a bit disproportionate. I think your plan will bring the cool.
