Ryoken's 89 Crew Cab Tubebed build... aka Mutt....

I know with you, it would.
With me it wouldn't
I buld for use you build for perfection, I lost that interest during the war, and I doubt I will ver go back.:pimp:
And by the way I know that marine diesel engines were the big drivers for the tech we got in diesels of today.
My Perkins is actually a marine engine, I am sure in your literature you can find out more than what I have for that engine: T6-354 Perkins.
1967 vintage and the first direct injection engine.
You can mistake it for a gas engine most of the time because of the smooth running.
Can you tell I love this engine.:thumb:

funny thing is, I RARELY see any Perkins any more.. it's definitely old school, like Chrysler's in boats... but fun to see.... haha, our tractor at work is a Perkins motor..

and yeah, I remember the hp evolution in the dizzles vividly... it was maybe 95ish in the marine biz... high horsepower throwaway Yanmar's became all the rage... 450+ hp Cats, etc...

lot of those boats are paying the price these days... my last yr at Hinckley, I did 6 Yanmar repowers with bay windows in the sides of the blocks... :eek1::doah: :haha:

Well perkins was bought out by CAT and they kept the 3 cyl and 4 cyl line going for smaller tractors and stationnary equipment because they were good engines.
Not sure what the rest of them did.

I also have a small 2.1 litre yanmar that I am trying to put in a small veicle.

so......

saturday's schedule has me doing new leaves/u-bolts out back.. parts are painted, ready to go... gear oil for the axles and an oil change on the first "washing" of the varnish from the top of my motor with the fresh 55 psi... I put a 1/2 can of SeaFoam in it today for the next couple days..

did some pre-emptive checking.. passenger side shackle/bushing bolts? easy peezy!

ds, I'll be cutting all that out... :doah: :haha: gonna be a long day, and now I wrecked my left wrist at work bashing something with a bmfhammer.... :doah:

As cool as diesels are, I applaud your choice for a healthy big block. Everyone is doing the cummins swap it seems and each build thread takes years it seems. Besides if you were to go through the trouble of a diesel swap, why not do a duramax?

Perkins are definitely very smooth engines. I almost bough an Egg Harbor last year with a set, too bad it was a real old one with wooden topsides. The funny part is that its still for sale... :haha:

oh, and it's getting a Purolator filter as opposed to Wix.. my parts guy is brain dead.. :smokin2:

can't remember the last Purolator I ran, but I'll give it a whirl this time round...

and I think with my work, a MPFI roller 502 will definitely be in it's future. I think we all can agree one of these under the hood

could be kinda cool... :haha:

get the plenum powdercoated chevy orange... :woot: :eek1:

I just think you guys are way underestimating what the "incidentals" run on a swap like that... 5 or 6 g's all told would be getting off cheap imo...

...

AGREED...like with a roller retro fit...it ain't as cheap as throwing in a cam and lifters to do it right. $500 turns into $12-1500.
Same thing for a Cummins swap, right around me a 94-98 if you can find them are well over 2K for a POS not hardly worth driving anymore, but they know the engine is worth some frogskins, even if thats the only part of the truck that is good.

A Dmax would be the shiznit, but the electrical scares me half to death...Paul, I'm sure could pull it off, but really a diesel for a towing vehicle makes sense...IF you put the miles on it to get your investment back.

and to be honest, other than maybe 2 or 3 wheeling trips a yr, I don't see a ton of towing in it's future... hopefully I don't get dragged down some boathauling path.. than I'd have to go dizzle, no doubt...

but for a rig that'd be lucky to see 7, 8 g's a yr for a mileage, even with a couple good wheeling trips in there as a tow rig, I think a gasser is viable..

Very much so....that's my thinking too, as BART might only see 2-3K a year.

right now, if I put 5 g's a yr on a daily driver, that's a lot! the marina is 2 miles from my house...

the Jasper 377 showed up today... tell ya what, that company does good by us... tho the driver is a bit kooky... tomorrow I gotta remember to check on a price for a roller BB...

being the DDer, a solid mill is a must... I may forego a top end and baby this one thru the winter and put a fresh roller long block in next spring... piece of mind and all that...

yup.. after god knows how long that crank had sh*t for oil pressure, 120 grand on the ticker, I'm guessing the holes ain't fabulous..... nastier cam/tight valves, buh bye rings... good money after bad probably..

I JUST installed one of the roller BB's, iirc it was a 99... that's the price I gotta get...

but I would run mine TBI probably initially... unless I fall into a mp intake in the next 6 months...

I do have a customer with a pair of those in a Hustler.. but I really just do the drives... and I winterize the mains... pretty snotty mills....

No doubt, a couple miles round tripper for work. Pfft you're right. hardly worth the effort for a diesel swap.
