My state does not require a front plate, therefore you can put anything there you want to..like Amity Island PD
We used to have the suckiest tags in the united states...I always liked the New York Orange and Black....but my favorite is the 1973-75 Mass plates...white with a simple red border and red numbers

In Nebraska they call them "year of manufacture" plates. You are suppose to limit the amount of driving you do with them though.
Oh, and we have to run a front plate, I hate states that don't run front plates.

We can do that hear too. I have a '73 Alberta plate on the front of my camaro. But an antique plate on the back. We don't require front plates. Or emissions testing. Just sayin.
our only option like that would be QQ plates for classics over 25 yr's... they are in standard new blue/yellow, like any new plate.. but have the QQ designation and have all the restriction that come with it.. mileage, supposed to be going to shows, etc... but the plus being no inspection...

I could have registered this 73 plate like you say. But would have to pay every year still for regs. But there's no restrictions cause it was a regular production plate. The antique plate I actually registered with has those restrictions. But one time registration and no inspections. The upside is no one really hassles about the antique plates ever.
we don't either in MI...auto manufacturing state and no emissions testing, go figure?
Our authentic plates are the same tagged year as the vehicle, must be correct color and plate design for the year of use.
The Vette plate was a 62 plate with a 64 metal corner tag that bolted on
In 77 they used a sticker in the corner of the 76 Bi-centennial plates

Alabama plates are flate metal with like screen printed letters and scenery

saves a lot of money to just print those babies out...but they look like crap
oh, I believe it, and am not surprised really... not as secure as a stamped plate, but I guess that's not a concern to them or LEO's...
