definitely taking a ride down to Fazzio in Glassboro... they where $137 for the 3/8 + like 20, 25 for the cut..

whereas Arnold is $210 + the same cut price... so in that instance, a bit more money..

now it's a weather deal... for as "chompin at the bit" as I am to get material, being 2 degrees out and snowy roads, not sure when I'll go.. it'd be a 2+hr ride.. plus we're supposed to get like 5, 6" s tonight.. and 0 degree temps again at the end of the week...

so I may just to be smart about this and wait till the beginning of next week...

Fazzio's cut to size when I bought the 1/4" plate for my welding table. I don't remember paying extra for the cut. If you still need cuts, you'll pass my house, ex 45 on 295. My plasma will cut 3/8".

You could also try your local vocational HS. I was in BCIT Medford's adult welding class a few years ago and they would cut stuff for people.

thanks.... maybe they charge if you keep all the metal... I'm gonna have em do 2 cuts for me.. lop the 1' x 4' off, than cut a 12" x 12" qrter off that for Mutt's receiver project..


I'll be running the parkway down to the AC Expressway, as opposed to running out 70.. bit further, but gonna be faster.. especially with the weather...

I may try Friday, if not, Monday...

I was watching vids last night....


realized I can use some of that 1' x 3' 3/8 for the back bumper of the K5 down the road....


trying to find a vise for the table... REALLY want a rotating head design... that's what my semi broken one on the bench is, and I've always really liked the versatility of the rotating for turning 180 for pipe and such.. and even angling it for regular items for better grinding angles and such...

that's what the vise get's used for 83.2% of the time, holding chit for grinding...

but they don't seem to be too common... Wilton being the brand I know of... I see they have 1 available, that's it... the price isn't bad, but it get's not so great reviews (maybe their quality isn't quite what it was years ago)..

I know of bessey, cheaper brand, but theirs didn't get great reviews either.. I've also seen TONS of broken ones on eghey for parts, not a good sign..

Columbian, wilton (I think these 2 are same now), ridgid (may be ridgid industrial, not home depot brand) westward, Olympic, and snap on are all vises that I have used and had good luck with.

My favorite is the old beefy ones I find at auction, they really don't make them like they used to. Check out garage journal they always have real reviews and show some awesome refurbished ones.

so... I do gotta say I'm not a particularly happy camper at the moment..


I don't know if this is normal or not, please chime in... never bought a big piece of 3/8 plate before... but they had already loaded this stuff in the truck and didn't see it till I got home...

I pull the 3/8 plate last, and the first thing I notice is in paint pen written at one end "DO NOT CUT! N.G


so, I take a level to it, 4' side, perfect, 3' direction has a 1/8" bow.... so I call em up and question it... they said if it's outside of tolerance, they'll cut me a new one..

so, I'm pretty certain I can get it replaced with a perfect one, BUT, I'll have to take it back one day next week.... pretty long ride, not looking forward to that... but I have lot's of time and for $20 in fuel, it'll prolly be worth it... rather than "me trying to park my truck on it and bend it, and weld it to a frame to keep it straight" type scenario...

I REALLY don't want the table to have that bow in it.. that's the exact reason I bought 3/8", to have a better chance of it being balls flat....


anyone here who buy's that kinda stuff frequently see this a bunch? I'm just gonna be livid if I do 3 hr's worth of driving and I get "oh, that's normal, it's from the shear"...

yeah, I'm digging the casters... I actually wanted some that weren't quite as nice/stout that where $10 a piece, but they where out of stock... so I got these for $16 a piece.. I likey, 4" x 2" wheel, big mounting plate, nice brake.....


had the GMC pretty weighted down on the way home... gotta be a 1000 lb's there...

that place is pretty amazing, blows away the Wall store.. frikkin huge.. the hardware store next to the steel building is as big as a supermarket.. coulda spent all day in there walking around.. throw in the 1/2 dozen hottie sales girls in the steel department...

oh well, looks like I'll get to visit them again next week...


now I just gotta find my jigsaw (not sure if Sandy ate it, don't remember) and get some good alum cutting blades...


there are a few scrapes/gouges here and there on the alum from me dragging em out, etc.. so once I get all the pieces cut to fit, I'll sand/wetsand em out, than burnish em with a scuffpad..

the bodyguy in me wants to sand em and buff em out like mirrors, but... I MUST REFRAIN! I just think scuffing em all front to back will be a better look, and be easier to maintain.. wash the rig, take a scuffpad to em...

oh, and the prices where even cheaper than I thought...


the casters and blade where $120... but the alum/steel order was $1137 all together.. the plate was $151 with the 2 cuts.. the alum was $215 a sheet...
