Ryoken's 89 Crew Cab Tubebed build... aka Mutt....

I know, I know..... :haha: it's just a VERY awkward piece to do... I had the log ratchet strapped to the table, hold long end down, start forming it around the log.... annealing probably would REALLY help if I had a person here to do it while I follow up with forming the metal...

I was just surprised 1/8 alum was that stiff... 1/4" would have been stooopid to even attempt...

zero rate corrected, pics up shortly....

I am surprised at how well it turned out, even by your onesies.

thanks... :D

to be honest, I surprised myself... it actually need VERY minor surface correction when sanding.... just a few minor high spots to take out....

after doing the mirror, the front 2 will be easy peezy...:haha:

much better...

it's got a pretty perfect stance right now, maybe a shade high in the back...... we'll see how it does with a bit more weight in the back... I can play with the back a bit by swapping to 6" x-tied shackles (which I have) if it get's too low...

man..... :doah:

that pic would look ELEVENTY x better ;), if the side doors where done.... :deal:  :doah: :weld::saweet:

This shot is just beautiful man.

The corner turned out great. I too was curious about the actual process. Maybe take a few in process pics when you do the other side.

that's my current desktop... ;)

I do want to apologize for not doing as many "step by steps" as I normally do.. Ive been kinda, just killin it, for a couple weeks, month........ busy, bouncing around, HIGHLY productive.. trying to drive the rig... pics are a splurge.. soooooooooooo much to do.... :doah:

will try to do some step by steps on the next corner one..

technically, if I hooked a few wires up, I could drive it to work tomorrow morn.. but i'll wait till next Monday, try to build the other taillight panel... license plate light and new fairlead should be during the week, so I can get a plate light in, winch mounted....... hopefully i'll be sequencing next weekend thru the taillight panels too....

oh, taillight pics in the dark tonight, if my POS camera allows... ;)

and thanks man... :D I'm pretty stoked on where this rig is, and is headed... I'm thinking my brain pic was a pretty good one.... :)

:deal:

:dunno:

spending $400 on latches make more sense now??? ;) (but I was also ahead of the game at that point cuz my 3 g boxes had turned into $1300 drawers...)

I've wanted the doors to rival the blinky panel in a "these mean business" kinda feel..... pulling up/next to Mutt, at a red light... and, "dayummm, them's some nice doors/latches!!!?!?!?!" :pimp:   :haha:

oh.. not sure if I've ever actually mentioned what this entire flatbed design concept was/is, based off of..... :doah:

the main bed/handrail height is based off the squarebody upper bodylines...

100_1829_zpskl1k1jfk.jpg

the side door/drawer height was determined by whatever was gonna be a good tire clearance... but the whole idea was based on carrying those bodylines thru the tubebed with an 8" to 12" vertical drawer space below it....

the deck, coffin area somehow derived inspiration from this look/feel..

somehow???!!????! :dunno: :haha:

the handrail concept was stolen from Willard...

also.. tho I have plenty to occupy my credit cards, I started thinking tonight of clamp-ons, etc for the c/prerunner tubes... maybe a fire bottle on one of the down tubes? I had talked about a swingaway/boom crane... but maybe a hi-lift mount? or, I like axe/shovel mounts too!! grrrrr, where's that link to the slick/billet, axe/shovel mount?!! :doah:

that's all 2" tube...

You know.....the nicer the truck looks, the more you will start to think your house needs paint! :D

Tail lights and curved panel came out gnarly! :saweet:

I'm pretty content with my MPS contribution today... in all it's blinky, fru-fru-ness... :woot: ;) :pimp:

I just realized those last 2 are pretty useless, you'll always have at least the park lights on too, if not brake..

the previous brake pics are stoopid bright, just look at the ground.. I'm gonna get sued..... :doah: :haha:

no running lights in those pics... I'll do a sequence vid next sunday night too...

ya know what scares me?

receiving an automotive electronics component, and someone recommending I use wire nuts, wtf.... :dunno: :haha: :eek1:

this isn't a solid house wire, it's stranded dc stuff... the coast guard would have my head for installing wire nuts on a boat,,

anyway.. sequencers are here.. just a couple potted inline magic orbs.. the instruction are needed (and unread :haha:as of this point), the rest is fodder..

ps panel is rough cut, begin shaping/bending it tomorrow..

I gotta say this has to be one of the best looking/put together duallies I have seen! my god the truck has some presence don't it?
How much weight are you going to be carrying around?
Good job digging the taillights.

thanks! :D presence.. I like that... :waytogo: I want it to be something that when you pull up next to it, they think it's badarse, from a 6 yr old, to an 86...

not to be denied... :saweet:

anyway... I'd probably be towing 5, to maybe 12 to 15 g's... if I get a hydro trailer, I could be hauling 30' to 34' boats.. so I suppose that could push 15 g's..

tho we are talking retirement work, next career/Cummins swap, in 9 to 13 yr's type stuff.. for now, it'll be a yard servicer/kennel/gasser.. :haha:
